Default Best Doom 3 Mods?

OK, so Doom 3 has been around for a while and there are a lot of mods available for it now. I quite fancy re-playing it now but wondered what mods would enhance or add more fun to the experience? Anybody recommend any (preferably with links!) ?

Is there a coop mod out there? I would be interested in that.

I know a very nice Uninstall Mod.

(Sorry, just had to. A Doom3 thread wouldn't be perfect without a bitchy comment)

On topic, i'm also interested in Mods for Doom3, the ones i have were pretty cool (the rounded heads mod and some other).

Yeah, actually there is...last I heard they had only released the Linux compile, but that was something around a month ago and they said they were working on the Windows version...there's a thread about it on Doom3World.org somewhere...

Self shadow mod? Isn't it allready an ingame command?

I would like to see a high res texture and poly mod along with the one posted here where the plasma and rocket projectiles are light sources. I'd definitely play the game again (on Nightmare this time) if I could get those things in a mod.

Yes you can self shadow yourself from ingame console. I've been playing like this from day one.

What do u mean a High Res Textures mod? And a Poly mod?
you mean a mod that makes all the textures higher res and all the models smoother? That would take major redesign of the game assets. Not gonna happen unless ID has higher resolution version of textures and models stored somewhere and release them.
The Round Heads mod is from a guy who manually modded the models, not even all of them, adding more polygons on their heads to make them look rounder...

I think XX means the High Quality Mod, which enables self-shadowing for monsters characters which have self-shadowing turned off for quality reasons. I tried it once and although there is a difference I can see why id turned it off; binary light/shadow + normal mapped surfaces = looks bad. This mod also disables demon rotting allowing you to pile up tons of imps, throw a grenade into their midst and watch them fly out. Plus some other small modifications.

Small Mods I tried and liked:
-GravGun Mod: real good, you can pickup enemies, etc. The only problem is that the D3's levels don't have the amount of physics objects as HL2. If you modify the levels that come in the game and put a lot more boxes, etc. it becomes really good. Btw, a version of this is being used on the Hexen Mod (except it's a spell).

-Xio Skins: Now on v5.1 it has some nice (and slightly higher resolution) new skins. It makes the enemies look a lot more hellish. Version 6 will apparently have bloom.

Some screenshots here: http://www.forumplanet.com/planetdoo...mp;tid=1564576

There is also a guy who did two maps for D3 (Barista and Pathways Redux) but they mod the game quite a bit (second one is in a south american-type jungle for instance).

Pathways redux is pretty neat.

Some dedicated bungie-ness going on there

I haven't seen it but as a conscious decision. TCs have a tendency to disappear just when you begin to like them. I love the Heretic/Hexen series and I'd love for this TC to come through dev-hell but until there's a downloadable beta I want to keep my expectations low. :?

The mod I wish to see is a 100% true to the original Doom2 remake with the new engine, but our HW isn't fast enough for that anyway, so...

Does the Doom 3 engine do sprites then? :P

Perhaps 70% true to the original would be better.

I mean the same level design/size etc and monsters in 3D, but looking as close to original as possible.

Hey, which one's that? I only have that GLDoom/JDoom stuff, but the models are awful. This looks much better.

There's a team making a Doom2 mod (for Doom3). It's still a work in progress, but you can read more about it at:

BTW, there's a similar mod called Classic Doom, the biggest difference being that they take a more liberal approach and try to use mapmodels and more detailed architecture while keeping the layout intact.

Has its moments.
