Default Radeon 9600Pro and Asus A7V8X (VIA KT400)

The fan of my power supply broke down, and so did my motherboard/processor, and the fan of my Radeon. And a few days later my laptop broke down as well

So, I build a new PC from spare parts I had lying around and it consisted of an Asus A7V8X motherboard and the repaired Connect3D 9600 Pro, (which they showed me to work just fine now). But the monitor won't come from stand-by, so I only see a black screen when I turn the computer on.

If I put a GeForce 2MX in, it works like a charm, but obviously, that's not what I want. I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, but no luck. Still only a black screen when I insert the Radeon.

I looked around on the internet, and there are a lot of issues with Radeons and VIA-based chipsets, it seems. But I couldn't find a solution so far.

Can I get the 9600 to work on that motherboard at all, or do I have to buy another one?

Have you tried resetting it after you power it up? I had that problem with an old Asus mobo and my 9700 pro, I had to hit the reset button after I powered up.

Yes, I tried that. And changing the aperture size and AGP speed as well. But still no luck.
