Default Doom 3 demo leaked ;)

The speed of this tech doesn't exactly exceed 300fps like in the original Quake.

This is stencil buffered shadows along with DOT 3 BM and per pixel lighting in the new Doom engine. In game it is far from the screenshots. It's the most jawbrekaing experience for me.

Quake 1 and Doom 3 fans dig in:
http://users.pandora.be/hollemeersch/blackrose/

BTW: it's all done in realtime

QUOTES:
"On Geforce3 trilinear filtering is enabled by default (disabling it may make things faster) on other cards you can enable it by typing
"gl_texturemode gl_linear_mipmap_linear" it will help a lot to increase the visual quality of the game.

Finally so you can compare to something here are some of my experiences with Tenebrae's speed.
Some times from my system: Geforce4 Ti 4200, PIII 900, 256 Mb Ram
Speeds measured by using "timedemo demo1"
The average speed in 320*240 is 26.4 fps
The average speed in 640*480 is 25.6 fps (update v1.01 runs at 33.5 fps)

Tenebrae "should" run on a lot of graphics cards, first I will give some explanation about what card is best for tenebrae. (I don't say it's THE best card)
1) Geforce 3,4
These use only 2 passes per light and are the fastest cards to run tenebrae on.
2) Geforce 1,2
These require 6 passes per light and are decent cards to run tenebrae on.
3) Others
Those others are actually ATI cards since those are the only ones that support all the necessary (ARB_)extensions for tenebrae. These cards span just like geforce cards several generations so performance may differ.
The average speed in 1024*768 is 21.5 fps"

Tenebrae certainly looks good in those screenshots, but tell me again why you lied in the thread title?

Well, according to the developer of this nice modification, the alghoritms he used are the same ones Carmack uses for DOOM III, so it does have something with DOOM III, thus, the title!

I asked DaveB if he could use the R300 to benchmark this mod. Now all I have to do is wait. The performance you get here will be similar to Doom 3. So we can roughly judge how well the R300 will perforam in Doom 3.

Not really, as I said, DOOM III is a completely different type of engine than Quake, so u can't make a conclusion based on this mod...

Besides, DOOM III will also have very advanced physic and tons and tons of other stuff!

I in fact very much doubt that R300 will be much faster in this mod than gf4ti4600, the guy still has plenty of optimizations to do.

OK, this falls under my 'WTF' category. I'm pulling 30.1FPS with a GeForce2 Pro(no overclock- 64MB). Running TBird @900MHZ(underclocked currently from GHZ), 256MB PC133 SDRAM under Win2k. Have to remember the command line arguments to check the other resolutions.

This is the coolest GLQuake mod I have ever experienced (and I've experienced many such mods).

Now, if only he'll add in detail textures.

This version is totally GeForce centric, it uses register combiners for NVidia cards and very unoptimal path for everything else. You could do all the stuff now done in 9 or so passes easily in one pass with 9700 and 1 or 2 passes with 8500. This version crushes my 8500 pretty badly while GF3 manages it pretty good.

Fortunately the source is available, have to check it out when I get my 9700 next week.

Damn I had a hard time finding the shareware version of Quake!

If anyone needs it, here's a link:

http://www.rocketdownload.com/cgi-bi...uake106.zip&r=

Now off to install it all and have a look..

Edit: Oh my! It was great man! Not exactly DOOM III, but I found it impressive!!

I tried the links from id's webpages, but they didn't work at the time when I needed the file!

Well, now the link seems to work again. Or then it was just my ISP from home that was fux0r3d..

BTW, I hope that the author doesn't mind that we just posted it as our "Feature Of The Week" over at http://gamershq.madonion.com/. 8)

Great mod !!!!

I hope people start to design speciall maps for Tenebrae (better location of lights, better textures, better architecture, etc..), then we will fully enjoy it

In Doom 3, the limiting factor is stencil computation. The Radeon 9700 can do 8 stencil calculations per cycle, compared to 4 for the GeForce 4. Please tell us how you come to your conclusion above.

He's not talking about Doom III dear Mr. ATI engineer.

Go check the homepage of Tenebrae and maybe you'll understand what alexsok is saying.

It will have to do 9 passes of rendering which isn't funny.

There are some new shots online - collected in one thread at Doom3world.org

In my opinion they look absolutely great, but well, that may differ depending on how you look at them.

Those screens look fantastic. Realtime shadows really add a lot.
