Upon reading Dave's review of the ATI 9700 Pro I noticed under the test section for Dungeon Siege the resolution of 1600 X 1200 is supported. According to MS the game supports resolutions up to 1028 X 768.... which is all that is indicated in the setup selection in the game. Does the recent patch for the game allow higher resolutions? Dave did mention in his review the following:
"The game uses a 3D card detection scheme which enables or disables certain options dependant on the capabilities of the card...." Since I (only) have a GF2 400MX do I need a new viedo card? |

Nopers. The engine to my knowledge only allows a max resolution of 1024*768*32. You have to have a command line parameter in there to tell it raise the res.

I have an LCD panel and so forced it to run at its native resolution of 1280x1024 via the command line in a 'shortcut'. The game pops up a warning etc telling you this (as if I didn't know
It's just a shame that they didn't make a role playing game with that engine.

If only MS had no part in it, it might have been great. Or at least so goes my theory.
I would have hoped they would have released dedicated server software for Linux and so on. This usually gets the community in the mood to setup dedicated servers. The other thing being not using direct play which is complete ass. At which point we wouldn't have to port forward 10 million ports to play. Once direct play is gone, get some decent net code. Make a more powerful scripting system around an event driven model using formalized game rules (something like NWN, except not has insane) it's shocking how bad game systems are these days, doesn't anybody know shit about game balance? At which point we'd see many people playing on servers with a fair number of people and large worlds. Can't beat that. Of course, when I mean many people, 64 is a huge number in this case. WHen all is said and done, the progression system which is reminicent of Ultima Online -but no where as good, due to the lack of regression- is pretty good. It COULd have been a great game, but it sucked to much to attract a large enough player base to get enough standardized mods/mutators such as half-life. What would and could have done it would be a diablo style item hunt and item creation game concepts.

Make a shortcut and add this to the command line...you will then get a prompt stating this is a unsupported resolution..press ok and away you go..
nointro=true width=1280 height=1024 or if you wish 1600 x 1200 |

Or look for the 'system_detail.gas' file in the DS game directory and edit it with the disired resolution under the entry for your card.

Actually, GeForce 5200s are going for $20, but since on Computer number 3, ( Athlon 900, GeForce 2 MX 400
runs 1024x768, with 55 fps, with Direct X 8.1b, and Computer number 2600, ( Athlon 2600+, GeForce 2 MX 400 built in ), runs also with 55 fps, they can follow the party, ( I play local with 4 machines ). My Athlon 3000, PCIx GeForce 7600+ on gets 71 fps, If your just playing Dungeon Siege, I would not recommend upgrading your video, unless you want to spend $20, and only get a few FPSs, and a lot for FPSs for other games. You might think that the Dungeon Siege engine is looking old, but was and is one of the best engines. The seamlessness of the world is still stunning after years of play... My Commandline... "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege\dungeonsiege.exe" nointro=true width=1600 height=1200 Computer 4 is a Dell 8200 w/ Built in NV17M GPU, it runs Dungeon Siege at 1600x1200x32 at 44 fps, but since the screen is so beautifull, I put up with the slow speed.... |
