Default What happened to the Bitmap Brothers?

I just went to their webpage and saw it hasn't been updated since 2002. Did i miss sth.? :? Reason why i went there was to see if a GBA port of The Chaos Engine was planned, and indeed it was!! In 2002! Speedball 2 came out, but not the announced The Chaos Engine. It's a shame really! Such a fine game, perfect for the GBA!

The only game from them that I found absolutely brilliant was Xenon 2000 Megablast. It is just amazing how those guys have fitted such a great looking VGA space shoot-em up on a single density 3.5 inch floppy. It still amazes me today. Too bad they never made a followup.

I think they had some other quite decent games though, Gods (I managed to find the mod soundtrack for it - Yay) and speedball (various versions).

They underwent a slightly lossy conversion to JPEG.

AARRgghhh now that damned tune is in my head...."Dah dadadida dida-dah"

Amazing what they managed to get out of that terrible PC speaker and the game was pretty addictive as well.

Absolutely mind-fucking-blowing, considering that it ran on a 16 color palette! It is still a good-looking game today...

Yep, that was a really good game. A little bit slow paced perhaps but otherwise brilliant.

I know that Xenon 2 Megablast is also available for the Amiga. And because the Amiga was rigged with something many times better than a PC speaker, that version did have a real mod as song.

[Edit: Finally corrected the name, because ofcourse it is Xenon 2 (!!!) Megablast and not Xenon 2000 Megablast. ]

And while we are busy talking about such classics: I want Pinball Fantasies to work on Windows XP. That was such a great pinball game (even today in my opinion). Me and friends really liked that 4th pinball machine with the grim reaper.

Too bad that the company didn't survive long enough to maybe make a patch to run it natively in Windows. That is why I like the way iD works so much. After the game has served it's purpose for the company, they release the full source code, so that fans can do wonderfull stuff, and make sure such games will work properly with new OSses for a long time. Too bad that the company behind Pinball Fantasies wasn't that smart.

Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies are Digital Illusions games. You probably know them better as DICE (Digital Illusions Computer Entertainment, I believe), makers of Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam and very much still around. However, I don't know if there is a patch to make those games work under XP. Would be nice as they were both brilliant.

Maybe you were thinking about the publisher, 21st Century Entertainment, which is now defunct...and hence no patches as DICE does not support the game directly.

Yeah but what happened to them! Who owns the rights to their games now?

Its just a shame seeing such a great game going down the drain into the void, because most companies just don't wanna release their source of a game when they have milked it enough.
