Default Tribes open beta, and single player demo out

Public beta: http://www.fileplanet.com/betacenter/tribesvengeance/

Single player demo: http://www.fileplanet.com/files/140000/145498.shtml

Cant believe this wasnt posted.. the game is definatly better than most this year. Little more floaty than I would like, but overall a great game so far.

How CS players play Tribes: VE. (needs divx)

CS players dont take offense to that, but its just funny.

I've been playing the MP beta for the last couple of nights and it has (to me @ least) the same flavor as the original Tribes. It only took me a few moments to get back into the groove of it. So far I'd say I'm impressed with it.

I really dig the game. I played a bit of the tribes2 demo and never got into it the original was back when I was a poor collage student with a 486; but this new version is quite fun.

On a side note, is this game as hard on everyone's hardware as it is on mine? With all the graphics options cranked i have to stick to 1024x768 with just 2xaa and 4xaf to get respectable framerate. Even in doom3 I can get away with a silghtly higher resolution and more af.

Jetpack, ski, and grapple; walking around will get you killed quick. I'm an avid cs player, but tribes is a very different game.

I was just joshing CS players, no offense ment.

Just funny to see someone walk around like that, and the song fits to a T!

You HAVE to jet and ski. There is just no other way around that fact. Practice, practice, and more practice. If you have never done it, it can be hard to pick up, so dont give up. T:V is more newbie friendly though, as skiing is very easy now.

I hate T: V. This is not Tribes. This is UT2004 with jetpacks. Roar.

I was afraid it was going to end up that way, but from what I've seen... it isn't. If anything, UT2K4 is more like the original Tribes perhaps... :P

It's too fast. The balance is the opposite of what T2 was--instead of strategy and teamwork taking precedence over FPS skill, it's gone way past the middle ground of T1 towards "FPS skill is EVERYTHING."

I honestly didn't like T2 that much (I'm only referring to Tribes 1 as a comparison). I do still need more time with the game. I'm just giving my initial impressions. Team cooperation was one of the really cool things about Tribes though. FPS skill in the first one was IMO very important as well. Especially when you weren't a LPB. I was pretty damn good @ leading my opponent considering is was on 56k at the best of times. I loved playing engineer and locking down the base. I've already played a couple of games where people where dialed in on that.
Glory hounds can ruin any game though. If the game ends up being just a FPS smackfest, I'll pass on it too, but so far I don't get that feel from it. Much of the non-coop action going on may also be because new people are still getting a feel for the game as well. Time will tell the tale I guess. :?

I loved the SP demo!

It was like the original UT but with jetpacks for me, fast and furious!

Looks nice, crashes lots for me in 'ultra high' settings, stable in 'high'.
I'm a newb to Tribes, so pretty much dunno what I'm doing but getting my ass kicked.
Its certainly fast paced & I don't like that :?

I had to lower my ram to cas2.5 to get it stable at ultra-high settings.

It will be coop like when the game isnt "Hot" anymore... So many lame MP smack fests already... Its like Hollywood making "action" clone movies.

it's very, VERY well done so far. the grapple in tribes is gonna make for some LEET cappers out there. . .it's crazy

It's awsome to have a MP demo/beta w/ a bunch of maps (that ROCK) instead of one or two.
