Default Doom3 is everywhere: torrent, ftp, dc++

This is probably one of the stupidest thing what Activision could do: delay the worldwide premier - and they did.

Personally I don't feel any sorry for Activision when I'm looking at these sources, offering d3 download, DAYS before its release.

Stupid Activision, stupid publishers - they got they deserved.

I agree somewhat, but there are people who were going to download this regardless of the European release date.

This was the true test for torrents at one stage a certain torrent had like 25000+ leechers to ONE seed.

Delaying the Euro release was infinitesimally intelligent. Quite frankly I don't understand what the fuck they were thinking. There's plenty of CD pressing plants in these parts of the world that could have saturated the market just as quickly as they did in the US, there's no logical reason to wait half a month.

Idiots...

It doesn't seem like usenet was affected at all. It's still up and running despite all the numerous posts of Doom 3.

I sort of expected to experience an overall slowdown of the net, but so far I haven't even sensed any hints of traffic jams.

If nothing else, I hope this points to good signs of how well the Steam network will (can?) hold up once HalfLife 2 is released.

I'm quite curious whether anybody will go from Activision, due to his stupid decision...

Why do people steal other people's livelihood?

I guess these folks may buy the retail version later on (I hope) but stealing software just hurts later on. Especially from the game industry.

Some folks will buy it in a day regardless of the downloads but it sucks when developers get cheated out of their hard work.

heh. Alot of my friends are skipping the title .

They said for 5$ more they can get pain killer and farcry.

both are going for 30ish now esp at best buy every other week they have a special on them.

Thats 60$ for two great looking games for 55$ for 1 .

So they will most likely pirate it .

I'm downloading it now.

By the time it's done in 12 hours, I'll be home from Best Buy with my copy in-hand.

I just stepped into the office after visiting a shopping complex and, while there, the temptation was HUGE, HUGE I tell ya, to buy a pirated copy (they just appeared in Malaysia). The shopkeeper must've thought I was nuts or something coz I kept picking up the copy and putting it back down at least 3 times I think, until the girl asked "That's a shooting game, very good one... we ordered a huge load of it", to which I kept quiet for a while before replying with "John'll be both happy and sad with what you just told me" and proceeded to walk out the shop, looking back to see a her having a querying face.

That is very sad..... you did the right thing.

I probably would have bought it and then bought it again legitimately when it comes out here. I hate getting games about a month after they are released cuz by then everyone has it and finished it and all the stories are out on the net talking about things that happened..... feels like I sometimes already watched it prior to playing it.

What Activision did, was the worst mistake publisher can do: They overestimated the "need of original" -factor and underestimated the influence of warez scene. Certainly DOOM3 will sell pretty well, but not as well as it would have, if they would have launched it simultaneusly on old continent as well. Right now, there's no need of buying original (excluding the fact that owning original is the right thing to do ) if you already have a pirated / warez copy. Also, the lack of huge internet play mode (only 4 players?) won't make the original more desirable either.

as sad it is, PC games needs more efficient copy protections. (a lot argued Star Force 3 has so far kept Race Driver 2 sales pretty high, because there's not fully working warez / pirated version available. CloneCD image is available but you need to modify your HW config able to get it run and even then it's VERY unstable.) Otherwise the platform is dying. Noone is willing to make effort for the platform where hit games can hardly pay their developing expenses.

It's still not as bad as DX:IW though... what on Earth Eidos was thinking with a three months delay is beyond me.

Well obviously that's what activision get for not release a public demo for people. I think a lot of the leeching is occuring for 2 things. 1 curious about whether the game lives up to the hype. 2 whether peoples systems are adequate enough to run the title. I think a lot of the people are using the warez version as a evaluation version to see whether it's worthwhile purchasing.

If a proper demo was released 2 weeks ago we wouldn't have this embarassing mess.

I agree. I couldn't have said it better myself. That's the very reason, I downloaded it, and played it yesterday. At least they should have released a demo shortly after gold announcement, before release date.

Of course, I'm going to buy a legit copy AS SOON AS it's available in UK.

BTW, X800XT PE runs it nicely. 8)
