Default PSP Final Dev Kits Still Not Out

Subject says it all. But, looks like Sony is rushing the PSP out when you consider there isn't a final development kit out there for the developers to use.

Oh and something else that looks like it will hurt for Sony's PSP in Japan.

Quote:
"Square Enix, Japan's biggest maker of role-playing games including ``Final Fantasy,'' which has sold more than 60 million copies worldwide, isn't planning any games for the Sony product, said Michihiro Sasaki, general manager of the Tokyo-based company's corporate planning department.

SE not backing up Sony? What the hell? I know they were a tad excited about the possibilities of the DS but i cant imagine that they would become exclusive to DS in the portable market and ignore one of own shareholder and long time partner, sony.

Funny how everyone assumed that Square's GBA games were just as a stepping stone for quick cash, until sony would make a portable, immediatly switching to sony's platform and leaving nintendo with nada.

They're aiming Advent Children there, so it's possible they're looking to settle more games for a quick buck instead of looking to much larger development costs, and will aim other projects at PSP first. (And see how their sales pan out to decide if they take the plunge on a main title.)

Frankly, I think they'd do well with a multi-player Front Mission for the PSP.

In that bloomberg link and since you can't bother to read the article I linked to here is the quote directly from it (making me feel like this is slashdot when we can't bother to read articles when people comment).

Development Kits

Sony has yet to send the final development kits for PlayStation Portable to any of its outside game publishers, said Yoshiko Furusawa, a spokeswoman with Sony Computer Entertainment in Tokyo. Sony had already sent the final kits to publishers for its best-selling PlayStation 2 home video-game console at a similar stage before its debut in March 2000, Furusawa said.

RPG stints usually last longer than 2.5 hours...
