taken on a 9500 Pro slightly above this platform I made... as you can see Far Cry has an issue rendering AF on per pixel shaded surfaces (the sand is using a specular shading here) this happens on every card and is to do with Far Cry's rendering process... it would have nothing to do with the video card drivers whatsoever and the so-called "shimmering" in the video is not what really traditional shimmering it is this process as it cuts in... So once again, please know how the engine you are using to make comparisons works... everyone in the know says the IQ is equivalent on the cards and they tested in light of these so called issues very carefully... edit: just for further reference the particular issue is regular bump mapping (not normal) with per pixel lighting and AF applied... I think other games have an issue doing that as well |

you can try it yourself if you have FC, open the editor, make a new material that has a bump map and should be a specular type shader, and you'll see it... there's other things about FC as well like how it only renders detail textures out to a point then abruptly cuts off... this is the engine your card can't do anything to change it... which is why I've said before do not use a brand new engine for testing if you're not very familiar with it, I've been playing with it since beta and am familiar with these things
oh and as originally mentioned they couldn't find this very much in the game, that's because developers didn't use shaders that way much... I found it easily as I've been making new shaders for it... |

Rubbish. You protest that you have no particular interest in the subject at hand when it pertains to nvidia, and yet here you are bashing ati for similar things. Its quite clear what you're interests are here - at least stop being a simpering idiot about it.

So long as shaders conform to DX9 specs, I don't particuarly care about them. If they don't conform they need fixing. I've always said that.
I don't agree with brilinear filtering either, but, think if a user wants it they should be able to enable it, just not have it forced on anyway. I've always said that also. |

Perhaps you'd like to stop being a snivelling little hypocrite for a change. A search on these forums shows there was nary a peep out of you over nvidia’s brilinear antics for the past year, except to defend them, and yet here you are all over these ati threads like a rash. Clearly there is no interest in general 3d here and clearly its obvious what you're intent is - at least be honest about it.

It ended up being proven otherwise and I changed my opinion at that point. At the time it wasn't clear if the filtering issue was software or hardware based.
Not that it has ever directly affected me; as I have said before I didn't buy a nv3x based product because of the filtering issues - I stayed with a card known not to have filtering issues. |

Its perfectly clear that you don't have, nor will have an ati board that will affect you either, so this is just anoter example of you being a little hypocrite.

No, you're worse, since many of these "trolls" you speak of aren't trying to hide behind a thin, and terribly easily defeatable vinear of "general 3d interest" -- instead, you are just proving yourself to be an even worse nvidia troll.

I like most other nVidia supporters have taken the events of the last couple of years on the chin and not sulked about them. Thats a lot more than can be said for the fanATIcs who throw a huge fit every time someone points out a wrongdoing or shortcoming on ATi's part. |

Moreover, most reviewers don't stay in front of the card being tested, they launch the process, and then look at the result. Finally they have a bunch of SS which makes them compare the IQ. They doesn't bother to look at the differencies side by side or bench after bench. Moreover on launch product where time is very limited. It does seem that the IQ is almost always as good as trilinear apart from special situation as shown in the 2 videos of this thread.

Well, just about every review I read gave a slight edge to ATi for IQ.
