Default Could AIB's have given away an Nvidia dirty secret.

http://www.albatron.com.tw/english/n...asp?news_id=77

Just found this on the net and I dont know weather its wrong or right, I just like to see you guys discuss it as you weed the truth out of everything.

By the way Hi all, I have been hanging round for months and months and never had the bottle to sign up as im not as techy as you guys, but DW gave me the courage just by his posts, God the amount of times ive laughed because of his responses.

Ahem according to albatron there 6800Ultras will be clocked 200MHZ higher than the curently available review samples, but I dont know weather there is any truth to this, I am reading another thread about it which was posted before this one.

That's either a serious typo or NVIDIA seriously downclocked the review samples to throw ppl off. It could also possibly refer to the vanilla 6800's clocks. I'm leaning towards the former though, given the early overclocking attempts.

600MHz on the same process as NV36/38 sounds outrageous, and saddling a 50% faster with slower memory seems silly. I think this is a typo.

Welcome, DWF.

Could it be the non Ultra?

12 pipes - 600 mhz - 500 mhz ddr1?

Current tests have shown that the NV40 does not draw that much more power than the nv38. Also, none of the samples in reviews were able to overclock much more than 450 mhz. For a card that until a week or so before launch was launching at 475 mhz core, it makes me wonder. First, if it barely draws more power than the NV38, why add a second molex connector. Second, if the review samples cannot even clock to the default speeds that NV40 was supposed to launch at, are these cores from the 6800 non-ultra speed bin? It is a twisted consipiracy theory, but perhaps is possible. If r420 beats nvidia maybe the clocks will go up, but 600 mhz seems unlikely. (Perhaps they will go with 400/1100 ultra, 400/700 non ultra, and a 500/something 512 mb version of the ultra that really needs both molex connectors).

I still think its a typo. here is some history. All of ATI high end cards have been clocked higher than the one it replaces. The same can not be said for Nvidia. Now the FX cards to now started at 500 to 450 to 475 to now 400.

Which tests? This one seems to show a different picture. 24 more watts than a 5950, 27 more watts than a 9800XT, I'd call that significant.

Either or is cool, I laugh at myself a lot of the times too. If you can't laugh at yourself yadda-yadda-ya, and all that rot.

Yeah. It's nice, but kind of creepy too.

Welcome to B3D and thanks for the compliments.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, but it was Nicktoon Friday Nights with the kids for me and as soon as that ended and I got 'em in bed my wife came home and popped the first season of CSI in and I was abso-freaking-lutely glued!

Now it's 18 minutes past midnight local time and I'm trying to decide if I should play a little bit of Painkiller, (I just did some major upgrading to my gaming rig Bubbles and she is doing killer so far! ), or go to sleep so I'm half awake for the local PC show which snuck up me and is tomorrow morning.....AND my mother called me to ask me for the kids for a while tomorrow....

Did I mention I upgraded Bubbles? I did a pretty classic screw-up, I picked up an NF7-S rev2 based on some reviews/recomendations/pure drooling and it's everything I hoped and more....but it's a full sized ATX board and unknown to me Bubbles is a mid-ATX case.

I never knew what the difference was before, but with my DVD & CDRW jutting about 3-4 inches out of the front of my case I do now.

So I gotta decide if I'll goof the net for a while or go crash and get a morning at the local PC show where I can pick up some muchly needed digital cables for me new sound system for cheap....and where is my very first/best choice for buying new cases cheap. ("local PC show" = an old elementary school turned civic center about a half-mile from my house rents out their gymnasium every other month or so and about a dozen or two local PC vendors rent out banquet tables to put up PC shit for sale on. You can find pricewatch prices there, but without the shipping and you can haggle with cash. It's pretty much as close to geek paradise as I can get right now, but it's a fun treat for me)

Hmmmmm....tough choice. The new mobo is running 10x200 like a freaking champ and it was just me first attempt to OC it (I couldn't run over 175Mhz FSB on me old mobo, VERY annoying!). Add to that an audigy2 with a killer altec-lansing 4.1 and Painkiller is just WAY better than it was a few days ago. Gads, the sound makes such a humongoid difference in the immersion factor....EAX 3 is impressing me and I ain't regretting going back on a previous oath to never buy creative again, the A2 is impressive.

Damn, this babble cost me almost 5 minutes of time. I think that put me past my zero point....well, that and the fact that I now like to play Painkiller with the sound at a reasonably loud level and with everyone asleep in the house the first good explosion and it'll be bloody bedlam around here.

(Sorry for the long praddle, but I haven't been on the board all night and decided if someone went to the trouble of registering under the name of DW fan than the least I could do was to give him a dose of me before crashing. )

EDITED BITS: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I stayed up until about 4 am upgrading last night and still managed to drag me sorry arse out of bed and get the kids dressed/fed and transported to school by 8...I'm a little wonked.

I think I will be crashing. My only post I think tonight, that's an odd sort of record for me.
