Coming Soon: New Warcraft III Patch!
Wednesday, April 14, 2004
Within the next few weeks, we will release a new patch for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and the expansion set, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. The upcoming patch will include several new features, fixes, and balance changes, including an updated matching system, completely anonymous free-for-all play, clan ladders (The Frozen Throne only), improved player and clan profiles, and a new Neutral Hero -- the Goblin Tinker. Full details can be found here.

To further test the patch, we’ll be making a beta version available in the next few days. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to join us for the beta test and try out all the new features and functionality going into the game. I see Blizzard has done one of their old tricks.

Back when D2 was being previewed they had screenshots of the Cow area come out on April 1st. In both D2's case and WC3's case, the info given on April 1st was true, lol.

The only surprise is it took this long for 'em to nerf Flamestrike a bit . I do see a lot of hero-rushed undead screaming blue murder though.

Update: Warcraft III Beta Competition Start Time Changed
Monday, April 19, 2004
Thanks to everyone that has participated in the Warcraft III Patch Beta thus far. Your feedback has been invaluable. Regarding the status of the Beta competition, originally, we intended to start Tuesday, April 20st at 6:00 PM. The start date is now "to be determined" so we can ensure there are no significant outstanding issues when the competition starts. We will give 24 hours notice prior to the competition's starting. The ladders will be reset when the competition commences. Thanks again for all the help in improving Warcraft III. Good luck to everyone!

all i have to say is meh.
RoC was much more fun that TFT.
Starcraft is still more...balanced, with less hard counters so the game doesnt play like paper rock scissors...like TFT does.
bah.

I'm not sure about that. I found more uber-tactics in Starcraft than Warcraft, particularly TFT. There's no units in TFT I never need to use.

That said, there is a clear hierarchy of rock-paper-scissors in it, but to get a game that well balanced with that many units and races is no mean feat. The only unbalanced scenario is 4v4 where one side is 3 or 4 humans and the other side is 3 or 4 night elves. That's 100% impossible for the NE to win if the humans play it right.

WC3 is " balanced " but when your hero die .. you're dead .. simple.
