Set Environement shadows and character shadows to the minimal level, you'll get ride of stencil volumetric shadows, that should help A LOT.
(Even with an Athlon XP 2000+ and RadeOn 8500 I have slow downs when those features are enabled)

nwn performance is just plain wonky. I love the game but the engine should perform way better then it does.

it's weird but a mixture of a new sound card (audigy 2 replacing Herc GTXP) and/pr Cat 4/3's/4.4's have sent my NWN with AA and medium shadows performance upwards by a huge margin. 30-40fps instead of 20-25 on my 9700Pro.
