I get these like once a day at least it feels like. Very VERY annoying.
I got a few of those yesterday and the day before that. Colourless' post in this thread refers to the same ad.

Not that I care too much about this site but I found the following ad very disturbing regardless of whether it appeared here or anywhere else, due to (a) it's totally in Jawi, something I don't understand; (b) the images below suggests something totally disagreeable to me, if it means what I think it means :

http://3dpulpit.hostingisfree.com/mi..._ad/b3d_ad.gif

PS. Originally a Shockwave file, changed it to a GIF. Will delete the above files tomorrow. Sorry for disturbing the peace of some folks by posting here.

It appears to be this: http://www.10million.org/

I can only guess what you thot it was, but it appears to be a reward aimed at leading to the recovery of these missing men.

As another useless datapoint, I'll add that even in recent months I get frequent pop-ups at B3D (frequent as in it happens typically at least once a week, usually in groups where I get several in one day and nothing for a week or two, not as frequent as in every few minutes consistently). I also get multimedia ads with the most obnoxious music about as often. This has been the case for as long as I can remember.

I use a popup blocker, but it isn't foolproof apparently, as some get through even here at B3D. Many more I see are blocked. It wouldn't surprise me if I get these because of some malware on my system - even being careful about where I go, I'm exposed enough to the net that it is nearly impossible to prevent everything from getting in. I've long been suspicious that there is adware out there with the sole purpose of activating certain ads (i.e., from certain companies) when you happen to run across them. In that way you don't have anything obvious enough to think you are infected, but they still get their ads through and you figure it is just a failure of your adblocking or popup blocking.

On a side note, I never click on ads. Not because I don't want to support the site, but really, it just isn't something I'm in the habit of doing. Certainly there is never anything in the ads of interest - it is just a conditioned reaction to ignore them completely. Maybe I should write a script that is active only when surfing B3D, that searches for banner ads and opens them to a new background window and then immediately closes it, and continues to do that as I'm surfing. Hmm...

Another note - something keeps trying to load over, and over, and over while I'm browsing B3D. Happens on every page. Don't get a popup-blocked message, but I do get a click as if a link has been selected (or page refresh, or whatever... the standard IE click) and I see the blue status bar (towards the right on the bottom of the IE frame) quickly scan across as if something has loaded.

Any ideas as to what that is?

Since coming here again to read the various E3 related topics it came as a shock to me to see some adware crap installed on my IE. This only happens every time I visit B3D. Whenever IE is opened after that, random popups come up every so often even when im not at the B3D site. Ive narrowed it down to this server, so Im wondering...Is anyone else getting this?

Never in the 4 years i've been haunting this place. It seems ads are different depending on what part of the world you're in. For us UK guys, all seems to be fine, whereas some US (and other) people have been complaining about bad ads.

You really need to confirm this by running Adaware, Spybot or one of the newer virus scanners to see what you've got. Ideally you should clean your system and then see if one of the above products intercepts anything nasty as you browse B3D. That way you can confirm where it's coming from, which will actually be one of the adservers.

Just ran Adaware, I didnt notice anything out of the ordinary besides the various cookies you pick up while browsing the net. I dont seem to have it anymore though so hopefully whatever Ad did it to me wont be coming back. But if it does Ill be sure to report anything here. I was just wondering if someone else got it besides me.

I applaude the "True" ads I'm getting right now.

I simply love all the scantily clad girls telling me "it's nice to be naughty."

Default More deceptive Ad Banners

I notice that recently on our "country targetted ads" here in the UK we've been getting all these "answer a question and win laptop/plasma TV/mobile phone etc" type ads. They pupport to come from various UK domains. Leaving aside all the business about giving all your personal info, being asked to do the same for people that you know, and giving permission for spam to be sent, why is the first thing in the terms and conditions:

Quote:
To participate in MyFreeMobilePhone.co.uk, you must be an individual at least 18 years of age and reside in the United States of America.
or variations thereof? Basically these are ads targeted in the UK, pretending to come from UK companies, gathering all your personal info and all the info of your friends and colleagues you can be fooled into divulging, and then they do a standard "bait & switch" by making sure that every person they target is ineligible for any of the prizes on offer. Isn't that basically a confidence trick, and not something that B3D should be associated with?

I haven't seen the virus/trojans reported by forum members in other countries, but there's obviously some issues that need sorting out with your advertisers.

Speaking of which, I haven't read this forum in a long time. I saw the thread title, and was wondering if perhaps one of our users had clicked on the above mentioned links and found out that infact, the girls in question had some er... unexpected attributes that they felt rather strongly about.

I generally don't care about ads, unless they make a sound or pop over on mouse over. I kill those immediately (the last one was a pop over on mouse over from Microsoft last week).

Then again, I never, ever click them either. Is AdBlockPro able to click them for you if they're on your white list, while making sure nothing pops up? If it isn't, is there something that is?

Edit: if that first action isn't getting rid of the ad, I block the ad site.

Hmm, sorry to dredge up ghosts but.. is this site legit or something? Seems kinda bogus on a graphic card review site...

The copy on the ad (found on the b3d frontpage) reads "Top 10 Graphic Cards ***** Which Graphic Cards Are Best? Alll The Brands Reviewed"

I checked the link but it said their bandwidth had been exceeded!

Seems like it was just a harvester for ad link clicks, at least on the surface. We'll investigate and see what's what, cheers for bringing it to our attention.
