There's one stubborn user over at another forum, according to whom the lag other outputmodes add to jumping within video file from timeframe to timeframe causes, among with sync issues, is unbearable regardless of if GPU acceleration is used or not
So he wants to use Overlay mixer then, but apparently it's been broken since 11.5 or 11.6 partly, the scaling doesn't work properly. I did just a quick test myself with both old Media Player Classic and the more modern Media Player Classic Home Cinema - indeed, the overlay sometimes messes the scaling. This can be reproduced by rapidly changing window size at least with HD-videos, it also sometimes doesn't scale at all when switching to fullscreen.

Ahum, isn't video overlay functionality deprecated and obsolete for a rather long time - IE, launch of windows vista at least?

disabling Aero is worth trying, in classic mode the legacy ways might work - ultimately you could need to run an XP driver though.
I installed 2000/XP driver for a radeon 9200 on win 7, once. the user was satisfied at über smooth Unreal Tournament and Warcraft III but I didn't try media players or their overlay. I too liked overlay even when outdated, it was the least CPU hungry mode afterall and I always thought it ran great on wait for it.. S3 virge (I ran S3 virge quite late!, had voodoo2 SLI, too bad that crappy directX 8 didn't support 3D-only accelerators so I could never run GTA3 or ut2k3 on that) on my following graphics cards and after upgrade to XP, I still used overlay on purpose. overlay isn't compatible with subtitles, that was the main thing with it for me a few years ago so in the end I switched to DX9 renderer and there was no difference at all to be felt anyway. did you try Haali renderer, in MPC:HC? it was unreliable or buggy but maybe it has improved. |

It automaticly disables Aero when you use Overlay, so that's not an issue, and reportedly it worked 'till 11.4 or 11.5 drivers just fine.
I myself don't care really, I use EVR, but thought that trying to find a solution (reported to AMD too of course) could help a fellow forum user at MuroBBS, who's convinced that's it's the best if you want lagfree jumping within the file and no sync issues
