Default Understanding Exclusivity, the curious case of Rockstar Games

I haven't been what people would call exactly privy to Rockstar's intentions since the release of Vice City. However, I did buy Red Dead Redemption, and L.A. Noire has piqued my interest significantly. What stumps me is, why the console exclusivity with certain titles? I've never considered myself one to gripe about the quality of a multiplatform game, unless it's a horrific port, and even own a 360. So, generally, I consider myself without bias. However, titles like Red Dead Redemption, which has received tons of acclaim and could potentially generate a lot more revenue for Rockstar if they released it on the PC. Now, with the impending release of L.A. Noire, they seem to be repeating this pattern. But why? There hasn't even been a peep or even the slightest hint of a PC release of RDR, so what gives? What prevents companies, especially those who have delved into multiplatform games in the past, from releasing certain titles on ALL platforms?
