Default 18-Apr: Forums go glacial?

B3D forums have been amazingly slow all day today...downright glacial.
Same for others?

It's that damned Icelandic volcano. Why can't those Icelandians keep their ash to themselves?

Time to give the ol' server blade a reboot maybe? ...Or perhaps just a boot?

Sort of comforting to see it's not just me who's experienced the icelandic nature of the boards today.

There was a rogue apache2 child process sucking up a CPU core and resources for the other worker threads. Should be OK again, apologies for not having visibility of it until just now.

PM is better, but in the advent things are completely dead the IRC channel is better. Various folks in there should have my cell number (and should have called or something this time ) to get more immediate results.

Hmm....

Runs off and creates IRC bot to complain about slow site in middle of the night then hammer site with traffic so it will be slow for IRCers.

The glaciality is back, with a vengeance!

Takes like half a minute for a forum page to load, it was faster back when I was on a modem.

Looks like it's something to do with those TechReport ads at the top of the page.

Maybe Rys is playing around at the mo...

I'm not playing around, but any content loaded from a third party host like the ads have the potential to slow down the rest of the page as they're pulled in. Performance is currently fine for me, and was at the time Grall reported the slowness.

I'll ask Adam and the guys at TR if there are currently performance issues with the ad server.

Dunno about everyone else, but it looks like it could be an issue with the chosen style. Just switched to vB3D and the ads look fine and speed is back to normal. Switching to the vBulletin default style (which is what I was using) seems to makes things go slow again.

Hope this helps.

Forums glacial again...

Using default skin btw, not anything special (just in case it matters.)
