Default B3D Moderators in Console Forums Jumping the Gun

So whats the deal here? I went to two threads from page 1 today to post and both were closed. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't appreciate Moderators closing threads because they feel its in our best interest. The only reasons a thread should be closed is if it's topic isn't related to the forum or if it has zero traffic.

Example 1:

Thread: saturn's abilities

Closed by: Shifty Geezer

Reason closed: With two threads by 2008 IQ blah-blah closed, including a clone of this thread, it shouldn't be surprising this thread has come to this end.

(Is it exactly the same thread? exactly?)

Example 2:

Thread: I don't understand the hype for 1080p/24 output

Closed by: Shifty Geezer

Reason closed: A 2 year old thread is definitely getting closed! The same topic can be resurrected in a new thread if someone wants to talk about it.

(Who cares if its 2 years old. I would prefer to have a 2 year old thread on this topic, more information for me. And, if we did start a new thread on this topic, wouldn't it be classified as a "Clone", contradicting your reason for closing example 1?)

Apart from the removal of the flamebait, it's identical. If a thread is closed, you don't just ignore the mod's decision and go open a new identical thread. If 2008 IQ is unacceptible disagreed with the choice, he should have taken it up with the mod team and presented an argument as to why the thread should be opened, as per the FAQ.

Thread necromancy is genreally frowned upon. Ask CarlB about this one I think the general reason is because a discussion is lost, the previous debate lost, and short of reading the whole thread again, no-one can sanely pick it up. Where a topic does tie in with an old discussion, it makes more sense to start a new thread headed with the New Thinking but link back to the old thread.

You do realize that you don't make the rules on this forum, right?
