The problem with Siren isn't the resolution, that looks good enough with the 4xAA. It's the ridiculously agressive mip-mapping. The textures aren't all that detailed to begin with, but they switch to lower res mipmaps only a short distance ahead of the player. It really hurts the look of the game, which is great otherwise.

Sounds like they are only using bilinear filtering. Odd considering it's just a PSN title. I thought the game ha a relatively short-draw distance too being a horror game and all. Does the game have any sign of frame rate dropping? Perhaps they were playing it a little too safe to maintain a high framerate (does it?)

it's hard to tell since the game is so dark. it didn't look that bad to me, but I was mostly irritated by the "ooo oooooo a a a aa aaaa aaaaaa aaaaaaaa" background music/ambiance/whatever that was supposed to be scary i guess; but it just sounded like a zombie making the THX intro sound effect drawn out over a minute repeating.

Framerate is very solid for the most part, just one little area that I remember where the engine gets overwhelmed and stutters a bit. I would gladly give up a little performance if they would just fix the mip-mapping issue.

hello,
another question about the orange box and xbox 360. somewhere i read, if you play the orange box on the xbox 360 with a vga or hdmi/dvi cable on a 17" tft computer display with 5:4 AR and 1280 x 1024 native resolution ie (1024 x 768 4:3 would be the same i think) you get fullscreen instead of letterboxed display when the xbox 360 is set to 1280 x 1024 in the dashboard. is this true? which resolution is the game rendering in in this case? is this a common thing on xbox 360 games? and another question regarding this displaying topic. when playing a game which is usually rendering in in real 1280 x 720p 16:9 and doesn't do this fullscreen thing mentioned above and you are using the hardware and settings mentioned above, does the xbox 360 scale anything or does it just add some black bars which are 152 pixels in height at the top and bottom of the picture to get a letterboxed image and display the 1280 x 720p image pixel by pixel (1:1) within this 1280 x 1024 resolution of the monitor? |

Didn't you hear about the Silicon Knights lawsuit against Epic regarding UE3?

It looks like 720P no AA from the demo.

(As a quick note, I am moving hosting and domains around in the following days and the screenshots may be offline for a few days. They will be back, though.) |

The screenshot on my site in the oblivion directory was taken with the original release of the game. However, the two shots that reside in the 43vs169 directory are taken from the GoTY edition. I had not patched the game at all, so that may be why it is still running in 1024x600. I'll have to apply the patches and test again. |

They don't appear to be although they are at a funny resolution. Saying that they're not that impressive anyway.

I think the case is closed on the apparent leap to full 720p... it never happened! |

But KZ2 is not native 1080p, and these screens seem to be 16xAA level something that ps3 can't do.

aliasing is there. i'm thinking they are in-game shots. killzone hides aliasing well with the QAA and DOF etc... it really is a pretty clean looking game, but i do see some aliasing, so they're probably not bullshots.

The video capture bluriness together with the motionblur in those screenshots helps a lot to hide jaggies/smooth them out.
