I really wanna read this book. To sum up, MS came to IBM during the development of the Cell and IBM basically gave them the PPE design to use for the 360. EDIT: Sorry AI. Wasn't trying to be sensationalist. I actually rewrote my post 3 or 4 times to eliminate anything that could be construed as a bias. I am most interested in IBM's part in playing the field and if there are any real world tests anybody can run to see how close a PPE and 1 of the cores perform. I have no access to devkits. It would be a fascinating study of how the chips diverged and how much they have in common still. Last edited by damienw; 31-Dec-2008 at 22:33. Reason: Response to title edit |
