Default 3DMarkxx - When?

When can we expect a new version of 3DMark. Or is 3DMark05 with us for a while yet.

I can't see much point until we see Shader Model 4 hardware turn up.

How does HDR (FP blending) sound for a good reason to release a new benchmark?

Didn't [put version of last 3DMark released here] include a test for that?

From what I have read. Thats not likely. Due to their desire to keep the benchmark playable on more systems. I do recall a futuremark thread where they mentioned they may up it to 1280x1024.

With 4xAA/8xAF as standard, too.

Oh look, I edited your quote.

B3D is still in the BDP? I wonder why.

Thanks Nick, i am sure 3DMxx does more. What I like to see is FM to continue your focus on better art and direction. 3DM05 destroys 3DM03 there.

Im guessing it will be released around the middle of next year and be called 3dMark 2007.

I would like to see 1 test for "older" SM2.0 only cards and single core CPU's, the rest of the tests should be SM3.0 and multithreaded.

I would also like at least 1 SM4.0 test and one multithreaded test to measure physics. It would be great to compare the difference in physics power between various single core and dual core CPU's aswell as the PPU.

A "SM4.0" test is a fairly tall order for FM, in 9 months no less, when considering that MS has yet to formally announce the final spec, and may not do so for some time to come.

The next 3DMark will be more than 3DMark05 was. I mean, we will have more tests, more features, more effects, better shadow techniques etc.. Everything has been improved, and a lot. I think you'll see what I mean when we release the first screen shots.

The point was that I no longer see 3DMark as relevant at all. And that there is only one reason why B3D is still in the BDP.

At least have the maturity to explain why you think so rather than making vague and intentionally leading comments like this.

I have to disagree- like all things, it can be useful or useless. I will concede the way the benchmark is currently used, it is completely useless. The "Free" version is totally and completely useless.

It's "Feature Tests" seem to be pretty accurate synthetics.. such as the Fill Rate tests. It's sad that these tests are totally left out of the consumer/free version as these are the only tests that serve any purpose.

We are working full ahead with a new 3DMark.

Sure you are. You always say that. Prove it with some screenies!

Thanks! I think that 3DMark05 looked amazing a year ago (and still does), but compared to the stuff we are working on right now.. well, you'll see what I mean when we are ready to post the first screen shots.

I can reveal that we will have water in the next 3DMark as well. The next 3DMark will be somewhat different from its predecessors, also in the use of the CPU. The high and low detail levels we used in 3DMark2001 weren't that great in the end. It created extra work for our artists, and a lot of extra work for testing the benchmark. Besides, I think one high detail level scene should be enough to benchmark any hardware. I doubt that we will go back to use high and low detail levels.
