Actually, I believe nvidia bought a bunch of domains, nvidiasucks being one of them... in fact, I believe that there are a fair amount of companies that do the same... kind of makes you wonder what they are thinking though

I think you'll find they have 'geforcesucks.com' as well. I remember a site listing all the domains NVIDIA registered just before or after the initial GF256 came about - there were lots along these lines.

If you want to have some fun, try "whois microsoft" and check out all the matches =)

You can do the same for nvidia and related words as well.

Note: The "whois" command can be found on Linux and Unix boxes. If you don't have it, I don't know what the Windows equivalent is, if any.

AFAIK only Hotmail (which they bought in 1997) was running FreeBSD and Solaris. Microsoft started to migrate it to Windows 2000 Server and they claimed that it's completed in 2001, though part of its function such as the DNS was still running on FreeBSD.

However, a more recent story about Skype (bought by Microsoft in 2011) that they started to make some in-house "supernodes", which, interestingly, run on grsecurity Linux (presumably for the enhanced security).

IIRC, the load-balancing appliances they put in front of their servers were BSD or Linux, and this made microsoft.com look like a unix site from the outside.

Most of the front stuff is managed by external companies (e.g. Akamai) and MS has no control over what they use. This doesn't prevent journalists to run an sensational story of MS using Linux every few months.
