Default X800 Pro ---> X800 XT hardmod finally cracked!

I just got done posting it up over at EB, here's a complete quote of me story there:

And I got the little contact picture that shows which one and I'll be posting it up just as soon as I format it and get it up on our server, here's the happy-happy post that was where it happened:

I scraped them away until there was some bare copper exposed, bright copper instead of the usual dull, then re-did the paint job, booted Windows up and ran ATITool, she now apparently has 16 pipes
Now this has been all figured out, I expect widespread availability of the X800 pro any day now. 8)

There was a failed attempt in the futuremark forums. He was able to flash his card to the XT bios and make the mod, but still only had 12 working pipes. He was also able to modify his card to 8 pipes...

Did it hurt his card in any way or is it still a good X800 pro? :?

Nothign different than we were talking about the other day. Just people trying to deal with the points, yes they are very small and need cleaned to get contact apparently.

Yields must be pretty good if people are getting all 16 pipelines to work, esp with core clockspeeds of ~600.

My friend just got his Sapphire X800 Pro (here in the UK). Running at 570/530MHz with the stock HS/fan. Not bad!

From what i've read on both Chris_UK and Phemo's cards beetween pins 1 and 4 is a minuscule hole( laser-cut maybe??) and they enabled the quads by linking the two pins with a higly-conductive material. So there is a circuit between 1 and 4 who has been interrupted with a laser-cut. Coincidence?I think not. So, basically i suppose you shoud search between what pins this hole is and make a bridge between them. What if you fill that hole?

Edit: From ati PR i've learned that they can disable ANY of the four quads. So the laser-cut can be between any of these 4 pins (eg. 1-2, 2-3, 3-4) not just between 1 and 4. So you should see where the laser-cut is located and bridge those pins (dones't have to bee 1-4). Just a thought.

Wait a minute, if you look better 1 and 2 could be optional quads and 3-4 non-disabable quads.

Once you have scraped off the covering over the bridge points you might as well go around the laser cut rather than through it ....

Oppainter went to 16 pipes and then back to 12 pipes LOL , others have had no success, some have worked.

It's quite possible that ATI has a more robust method of preventing unlocking than we thought. It seems silly to be actively stopping such unlocking in a way that is easily circumvented.

BZB I think they want a buzz about it b/c it will increase their sales and if people bork their cards ATi doesn't care they just get to sell another one.

I think that's unlikely given the cost of these cards. I doubt that ATI want to deal with customers who have broken their cards through this mod, but insist it's faulty.
