No it s only shops trying to screw up customers before the card is widely available.

If you read the follow up, Clubic asked to ATI europe what should be retail price and they answered (today) that prices should be between 378 € and 404 € in retail shops.

Ummm, well I've seen a number of UK sites selling 9800 Pro's, and they all have them around the £300 mark. That is 445 € or $527 at today's exchange rate! That is including local tax, though.

This information is false. Asus said 510€ and i think the right price should be 449€ VAT included.

Stateside, Buy.com doesn't have any in stock, but they do list the X800 Pro for $340.99. Bestbuy.com says it's in stock, but doesn't ship for 4-5 business days, so I'm suspicious of that. I was just in Best Buy yesterday and they had an empty display box for it, but couldn't even tell me what the price was going to be, let alone when they'd receive them.

Every other online retailer I've seen it listed at both has it listed for $40+ above MSRP, and is out of stock. Not exactly what I would call a highly available launch.

Perhaps not, but still miles above and beyond Nvidia's launch...

I posted a thread about this .

My friend is a manager of best buy in parmus new jersey.

The recieved a limited amount of x800pros . His store got 2. One he bought , the other a customer took. After that they were told to direct people to the terminals to order if off the net.

THey did this because right now its a slow stream of cards coming out (it would have been 2 per store twice a week) so they are directing them to the website.

Supposedly its selling faster on the site then they can get them in. Much faster. So the 4-5 day shipping wait is for them to build up enough stock.

Also they have put in over a 40k reserves for the xt version .

Sorry, obviously I meant an X800 Pro, not a 9800!
