well, hardocp was the site that gave us the famous leaked review graphs before the geforce 6800 ultra nda lifted, which werent very impressive, and the card has turned out to kick ass!

so, i'll reserve my judgement till the 26th, better to err on the side of caution, imho

I thought that the [H]OCP made the NV40 look pretty impressive, as long as people were reading the details carefully. If you can run your card at higher resolutions and/or higher AA/AF settings and still maintain the same or better framerates than the current gen top of the line cards, then that is a nice feat. If you look at [H]'s actual review text impressions, they were generally just as pleased as most of the other reviewers.

A $400 256MB 500MHz 12-pipe X800P will be amazing if it performs close to the 400MHz 16-pipe 6800U, as mere fillrate and memory bandwidth would suggest. Obviously I'm overlooking efficiency, but NV40 doesn't seem much more efficient in games than R360 clock for clock and shader for shader--yet. That's a big "yet," though, considering NV40's "dual shaders per pipe," which games probably haven't taken advantage of yet.
