    PS5 Pro *spawn

Well if PS5 Pro's GPU being 45% faster than PS5's is true then it doesn't need to lower the resolution further in performance mode, maybe it can even up it a bit (maybe, as PS5 code has some framerate drops) plus achieve better image quality through better upscaling.

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

@orangpelupa Congratulations on your new PS5! How's the fan and coil whine lottery ;) ? To test the latter, I recommend installing the ultimate coil whine benchmark, i.e. Genshin Impact 😆.

Alienware Ultrawide OLED on sale £660 on Amazon.

The latest Rtings report highlights two issues, though. One is accelerated burn-in through bright static elements (the CNN logo in the case of Rtings). Actually, the OLED monitors, even the QD-OLED ones did fine there, the panel refresh measures were able to clean any image retention, and only...

Alienware Ultrawide OLED on sale £660 on Amazon.

It's very tempting to buy, but the recent Rtings 10-month burn-in update has left me concerned. Playing any 16:9 content will cause the central part of the screen to have higher ABL than in the 21:9 aspect, which will lead to accelerated differential wear. Unless I compromise and play any...

Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2023]

So is 432p the new record for the lowest resolution of the generation 🤪?

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

That's a good question. Austin measured the fan in his video and it turns out it got smaller as well. Instead of ~120 x 50 mm it's now ~115 x 40 mm. If the diameter of the enclosure is smaller as well it means you won't be able to shop for a better fan if you're unhappy with what you've got with...

    Sony PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)

So apparently someone on reddit got their unit early through an in store purchase 😏 https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/1124fa2/i_got_psvr_2_im_normal_consumer/

Architecture and Products - read-only: temporary or permanent?

Whoa, it's been a while since I visited here and I see it's been a major s***storm 😮, one I really haven't seen here often if ever. B3D was always my go-to place to avoid internet toxicity. It's saddening to see things go down that route. I've been mostly frequenting the console forums, but even...

30 fps unplayable on OLED, alternatives?

My first HDTV I bought in 2008 was a Panasonic and it didn't have a game mode, but had amazingly low input lag for that time with motion interpolation enabled, around 30 ms. The only problem was the motion interpolation was always forced and you couldn't turn it off, and it introduced artifacts...

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

Right, forgot about the silicon and component lottery. Well, I guess that also explains why some PS5s whine more than others, both coil lottery and silicon lottery can contribute. ;) Add fan lottery and you're really taking a gamble with your PS5. 🎲 ;) Still waiting for that coil whine...

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

Yeah, I don't get his first revision data either, I can understand a slight temp increase, as Sony did slim down the heatsink while retaining the same process node (Gamers Nexus noted a 5 degree temp increase from ~66 to 71, which is within spec), but why on earth would a first revision PS5 draw...

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

Well, Austin Evans did it again :runaway: heatsink is further cut down, though not as much as rev. 1000 to 1100 change, also bigger heatsink and an additional heat pipe on the other side of the assembly changes to the plastic mold, shielding, and shorter PCB of the motherboard CMOS battery...

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

Looking at that press release they axed even more weight. Does the new 6nm process reduce enough heat so they can get away with further reducing the heatsink? Poor heatsink, you will be missed.

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

As far as I remember PS4 used DisplayPort to HDMI bridge, so they could force HDR later through an update even though it's HDMI 1.4 on the outside. In that light the weird 32 Gbit/S data cap on PS5's HDMI 2.1 port starts to make sense, as it's probably again a DP to HDMI bridge (DP 1.4 being 32...

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

That's interesting, thanks. I remember watching some Youtube video made by a repair shop where they tried to fix the coil whine per a customer's request. They tried applying some "liquid tape" inside the PSU but it proved ineffective and they ended up concluding that the main source of whine was...
