    Switch 2 Speculation

It'll be two screens. Nintendo's go to next move is always two screens.

It was in the works before the MS takeover. The MS management mistake was leaving Bethesda to (mis)manage the project to it's conclusion. By that point, Arkane had already lost at least some of the talent that made Prey, a critically successful flop.

It had a chance of being the case. Gamepass's stalled growth puts a knife into that idea.

Neither is really worth $100-$150 mandated ticket price on MS's next console is it? Although having said that, doesn't the mini version in Hololens have BOM of around $30? That's still a lot to force onto a consoles BOM for limited excitement.

Flat screen was ultimately the wrong place for the tech, where it was just an expensive novelty. The Quests essentially took that type of technology forward.

    Xbox June Showcase 2024 (June 9th 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST)

Yeah. Couldn't be any less excited for a COD direct. Hopefully they'll do some follow up interviews/features on the games featured in the mains show. They did that last year I think.

    Tomb Raider

'Open world' worked well in Lost Legacy. Which is also set in India. If you're going to rip a tomb raiding game for the next Lara Croft, might as will rip off the original, Uncharted!

Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2024]

It's not apples for apples because of resolution etc, but the gen 8 version run in less than 8GB of RAM. Last gen settings with RT slapped on and jobs a good 'un.

I assume you're being sarcastic, as that survey exists. That's not quite where my scepticism lies. The question is how much of the market for handheld devices been gobbled up by Nintendo and existing PC handhelds? A handheld selling to existing X|S customers doesn't grow software and subscriptions.

Handheld PCs are about the games too. PCs boast quite a good library! People like more choices in where they play. It's not even about being away from home. With a Deck or a Switch you can lounge around anywhere in the house. I remain skeptical as to whether portable/convenience market is...

Steam successes shaking up the traditional AAA model. *spawn

Way back then, when I definitely wasn't a year older than you! But yes, agree, there's always been hits from smaller teams. At five core people, I'm not sure that id was that small for 1993 though. They also had a string of shareware hits behind them and plenty of previews showing off Doom's...

I've difficulty accepting that statement when UE4 RPGs don't exactly blow Creation Engine's skirt off. Not sure we have a UE5 example yet, with it's better support for open world titles?

Steam successes shaking up the traditional AAA model. *spawn

The fascination is probably down to a couple of things. This gen's blockbuster titles have been more boring than ever, if you can even consider most of them next gen. The other is that the level of success for some of these smaller titles is dramatic. Gunpoint paid off Tom Francis's mortgage...

    Returnal (Housemarque) [PS5, PC]

Their next game was not supposed to be Returnal 2. I'll be a bit disappointed if it's a sequel/dlc. I wanted to see what utterly stupid name Housemarque would deliver next. :) It's a bit of a shame they're too early for UE5.4. I could imagine them going a bit crazy with Nanite tessellation.

Facebook owner Meta loses a billion per month on its AR/VR division, but believes it will be worth it

That particular issue is already solved in various ways in the lab though isn't it? A solution just needs to reach mass production. It's just a case of riding the learning curve hard enough for it to become affordable.
