First where to find all the information http://www.driverheaven.net/#article_11246

Ignoring my opinons on how it was run I am dissapointed on the winning shader because the judges voted a text book filter. Congratulations to Alexey Barkovoy you have just won the 9800 XT video card in our Smartshader competition! All the judges agreed your "Kuwahara" shader was the best of the bunch Although I felt Alexey's shader Kuwahara2passOutline which has 2 Kuwahara iterations and creative and ineovative outline effect as well should have come 1st or 2nd. The other shader I really like was Arsil's ArsOldColorMovie.pss/ArsSepiaMovie.pss shader's ( close to being the same thing). Finally the most creative effects I thought were Junkguy's RoboticVisions and Sigald's Burn1.

I hope to see B3D's results soon ( Hopefully I'm in their results, damnable mail servers ).

I thought the old movie shader effect was perfect. Very well crafted with an excellent eye for detail.

damn, should've submitted one of my 'Rich Man's HDR' shaders, that'd have raised the bar a bit
 if only I had something other than UT2k4 demo to test it on
and if only it worked on D3D and wasn't so damned buggy and featureless(2 commands I couldn't get working, memory leaks were annoying and I couldn't select linear filtering, or do it manually(because of the 2 commands))
though a few of them seem pretty styley, not many seem all that practical
motion blur, HDR glows, lens flares, Digital Vibrance, etc. could all help alot with visual quality(and lag, esp. with lens flares)

The frame buffer comes accross at 8 bit ints how did you plan on doing HDR glows?. I too found problems trying to get linear filtering to work 1/2 the time it seemed to only apply to the first texture unit. Also what commands couldn't you get to work?
