Related to this forum thread (http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1144) which in turn is related to this article on Anisotropic filtering performance / Quality (http://www.beyond3d.com/articles/8500gf4iq/index.php?page=aniso.inc) The Inquirer have put up a report saying that a new set of Detonator drivers, 32.xx, will be available soon whereby nVIDIA have concentrated on Anisotropic filtering performance.

<blockquote>"We got a nice explanation from nVidia here in Taipei, that Anisotropic performance in 28.32 and previous Geforce 4 drivers where not as fast as you might expect because the Nvidia driver team focused on FSAA performance first, since they accepted that as a priority. After that they started to work on improving Anisotrotropic performance, I'm told."</blockquote> Read the full Inquirer report here (http://www.theinquirer.net/06060214.htm).

Thanks Dave! I'm hoping to hear something more definite than that Inquirer posting though. ;)

Lol, I just got the disappointing news that the UT2K3 demo is still weeks away. I'm vulnerable to disappointment at the moment. :)

nV just released the 29.42 WHQL set (http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&amp;s=50009562&amp;f=67909965&amp;m=1920920774). Did The Inq mean Det 32.xx, or the 32nd Det release (which 29.42 may well be--I don't keep up with these things ;) )?

they are leaked... not released by nVidia.

Any idea if it will affect the Geforce 3 in ANY way?

I´ve tested the old 28.32 vs 29.80 driver.
At 1600x1200x32 all settings max.
RTCW.
default trilinear(28.32): 81.1 fps
8xAnis (28.32): 34.9 fps
8xAnis (29.80): 41.1 fps.
Radeon 8500 300/600mhz, 16xAnis : 42.2 fps
Radeon 16x = Nvidia 8x, same quality.
2x and 4x Nvidia Anis. doesnt look to good but its better than trilinear f.

So at least some work is being done about the poor Anisotropic performance, almost 7 fps differ the 28.32 vs the 29.80.
Test system:
Athlon XP 1900+@1.72 ghz
KR7A-R
768 MB PC-2700
Leadtek GF4 Ti4600
ATI R 8500 64 MB o/c 300/600mhz
