I've made the conversion to Opera, however I still use IE from time to time. Ive been experiencing slow load times with either browser. In excess of 10 second, yes i know its not that long, but still the thing slowing me down seems to be the ad part of the site, run by adtrix.com.

Are there others running into similar slow downs? Its a bit annoying to see everyother site load quite a bit faster than b3d. Is there anyway to make them load the ads faster, or even going with someother company? I actually use the ads to newegg to see what they have on sale, so any newegg ads actually gets my attention.

just wondering.

Exactly the same experience here for a fellow Opera user. There are times where p.adtrix.com takes over 15 seconds to respond. Other times it responds instantly.

If the slow load times continue, I may just have to add it to my no-banner filter plugin. I actually like the NewEgg ads though.

Yes, same problems from a Firebird 0.6.1 user.

here too.
i've added this line to my hosts file to "fix" this

127.0.0.1 p.adtrix.com
at least it times out faster than the real one ;)

I Usually dont Block Ads on Pages i like, but ~10s waiting for an Ad is not OK

Ditto. Sometimes the escape key works (on Netscape) to skip waiting for it.

I dont want to resort to this. ive done it to some {s}ites but I like this place and would like to see it not fold under. :)

There must be a fix since it wasnt like this before.

Beyond3D can sometimes be very fast but other times it can be extremely slow, considering I'm using broadband it shouldn't happen unless there is a specific problem somewhere in the software or are the servers just taking a massive dump?

seems like p.adtrix.com has been changed to netshelter.adtrix.com

load times seems to be a bit faster. about 7-12 seconds. better than before.

However the smileycentral isnt getting my clicks. any chance of Newegg, or googlegear adds. ill visit those (and even buy from time to time)

Also how about partnering with amazon.com I buy plenty of technical books from them and dont mind having part of the profits coming back here. ;)

Well, oddly enough, I wasn't having any problems until the change over to netshelter.adtrix.com.

The delay for me is now (at times) 4 or 5 minutes which indicates there is something seriously wrong going on somewhere. This is happening both on my computer at work and at home. Could this be a problem caused by my ISP (ntl) or is it, as I suspect, something wrong with the netshelter.adtrix.com server?

I've had this problem for the last couple of days now and it's a real pain in the arse.

Just wanting to add a "me too" to this topic. I'm fairly positive today's outage was the result of database problems, but I still took the opportunity to redirect p.adtrix.com in my hosts list, because it'd been bugging me for a long, long time. (netshelter.adtrix seems to load just fine for me, FWIW.)

Like everyone else, I'd hugely love to support this site financially, but the ad server performance was making it near-unusable. (Oftentimes loading new pages would be a matter of waiting for p.adtrix.com to time out, at which point the rest of the page would generally load immediately.)

Epic's amazon.com suggestion is a tremendously good idea. I'm definitely considering biting the bullet and buying a couple of huge fat expensive graphics textbooks in the near-ish future, and I'd love it if B3D could get a kickback. (You deserve it, as you're the ones who've sold me on the field!) In fact, I seem to remember this idea coming up before with some positive noises made by B3D personel. Any reason this hasn't been set up yet?

Do you know if it can target amazon.co.uk as well?

amazon.de would be great too.
(if you can expand this to DVDs you could get a lot of money from me ;)
