View Full Version : Homeworld 2 Demo issue with 9800P
Im running the demo in 1024 with 6xAA and 16X Aniso.
the background and some of the textures seem to be in 16-bit mode, similar to the problem some are having with neverwinter and the radeons.
Anyone with a geforce test to see if the backgrounds have the same banding as I am getting?

edit: btw using 3.6 cats, see no reason that 3.7s would fix this as nwn bug still not squashed

Homeworld 2 is DX9, so I find it unlikely to be the same bug. I too have the same prob on my 9700pro. Maybe the developers included lower quality background textures to reduce the size of the demo?

I know that my card is a lot lower down the chain than both of yours, but I get this problem as well on a GeForce 2 Ti on 45.23 drivers.
On another matter, does anyone know if this game uses PS2.0 if available?

actually the game is OpenGL, not DX9. doesn't use any PS features whatsoever AFAIK. simply a slightly enhanced engine from the first Homeworld.
can anyone supply a screenshot from an nvidia card?
It's a problem of the game. It has the same problem running on a GF4 Ti 4200.
well that's rather pathetic of Sierra then..... might have to look at the forums to see what they're saying.

Are you sure that it's OGL and not DX9?
The demo would not even load without me updating from DX8.1 to DX9.
It also says that you graphics card driver requires DX9 support. I had to update from 21.83 to 45.23 otherwise it would start to load then crash back to the desktop.
EDIT : Oh, well I checked and it actually is indeed an OGL game.
yes the demo is OpenGL only. Not sure what the DX9 components are for in regards to the graphics card but it would defintely require DX9 for sound and multiplayer components.
from readme.txt:
Intel Pentium III 833MHz or AMD Athlon 833MHz
256 MB RAM
32 MB OpenGL supported hardware, GeForce or better (with Transform and Lighting), ATI Radeon 7500 or better (with Transform and Lighting).
Requires DirectX 9.0 and a compatible driver.
250 MB Hard Drive space, plus space for DirectX 9.0 Drivers, saved games, and Windows SWAP file.
16X or Faster CD-ROM/DVD drive
Windows compatible sound card
Windows compatible keyboard and mouse.
Required for Multiplayer:
Broadband (DSL, Cable Modem, or faster) for multiplayer online (internet) game.
TCP/IP Compliant Network required for Network Play.

OK, thanks. I just checked their forums as well.
There appears to be quite a few problems with this demo...Heres hoping the actual game will be OK.

Homeworld 2 is an awesome game, but the demo is horrendously buggy and crash-prone.
The sad part is that the demo was based on the Gold version of the game. (It's been gold for 2 weeks and will hit shelves next week!) Likely the full version will be just as buggy, until it is patched.

I dunno. I haven't seen a single issue (R9700P) so far and I played it for 12 hours this weekend.
Cheers
