Middle Earth Online (http://www.middle-earthonline.com/index.php).

Currently targetting late 2004 release. I'm looking forward to this one. It's got potential. I hope they can pull it off. :?

The most worriesome thing about MEO is that Turbine, the developer, has stated that Middle-earth itself is going to be parcelled out in chunks. Which means that when the game launches only a portion of Tolkien's world will be available to explore. And from the screenshots released so far I think this means the Shire and its surrounding areas (West Havens, Bree, Old Forest, perhaps Weathertop or even Rivendell, and who knows how far south).

Fortunately, they're planning for a lot more than just the Shire...
MEO will take place just after the Fellowship has left Moria, and cover most of Eriador plus a bit more -- from the coast of Lindon in the West to the Misty Mountains in the East, all the way up to the Ice Bay of Forochel in the North and down to the Brandywine in the South. This hits all of the areas Frodo saw in Fellowship up to Moria plus a ton more, especially in the North and West.

I'm just hoping that whoever was involved to make AC2 such a travesty had better come NOWHERE NEAR this game.

Heh, too late. Turbine developed AC2 and they're doing MEO.

That said, I love AC2. Bought it a month ago and it's the best MMORPG I've yet played. I honestly had little interest in MEO--even as a Tolkien fanatic--until I started playing AC2, and now I can't wait. Just hope Eriador also includes the realm of Angmar when the game initially ships.
