Yeah, I made a bee-line for the stairs, cut all the guards and archers on the parapets and then figured out the right timing to fire a soul arrow so I could cast before he finished casting so my arrow would hit him before he raised the shield and I could hop back before his bolt of magic reached me.

RenegadeRocks, you'll need to wield a Catalyst to cast spells. The Royal class has one, plus a mana regen ring. I forgot where you can get a Catalyst in Demon's Souls if you're not a Royal.

There's a wooden catalyst on top of the first guard tower in 1-2. There's also a compound short bow on one of the towers. Two handy ranged options right there.

I did get the Short Bow on that tower, but don't know anything about catalysts. Haven't dabbled in magic at all.

I will make the game easier to bear when you are in trouble. A Sticky Compound Long Bow + 5 will make you pwn the game except for 2-3 bosses. You may want to read up on Crystal Lizard and Spiderstones.

I am taking a backup of my ps3 and then formatting the hard disk to remove a problem. The problem is with the videos I create in EyeCreate. They miss frames regularly, even while recording and playback. Since i could not solve it any other way, I am formatting the HDD to see if its a HDD issue.

The issue is that the Demons Souls saves are copy protected. Will they be restored after the format? The last time I changed my HDD and did a restore, my HeVy Rain saves did not make it. Any advice on thIs?

Did you use the PSN cloud save last time ?

The saves seem to survive for me when I upgraded my HDD not too long ago.

I am not on psn+ , so I don't think i can use the cloud save feature, or can I ?

The saves should survive technically , if it is the same ps3, but my Heavy Rain saves did not on this same ps3, so I am skeptical.

The protected game save should survive if it's on the same system:

Alternatively, you can subscribe to 1 month PS+, use the cloud save and buy the discounted games you want. Then let it lapse.

I don't know that they offer one month PS Plus subs. I think the shortest is three months, but I think it's a very worthwhile service. I signed up for $18 dollars in August, and since then I've gotten Plants vs Zombies, Costume Quest, Dead Nation, Burn Zombie Burn and Resident Evil 1-3 for free, not to mention access to 3 betas, a bunch of PS Minis, Sega arcade/genesis games and PS One titles I was less interested in. The discounts have been substantial as well. And that's on top of the cloud saving and automatic updates which are really convenient. It's been a way better value than my Xbox Live Gold membership was.

The last OT post here.

I have taken a backup, and now was going to format my HDD. Now there are two options: Quick and full. I wanted to do a full one cos the I was thinking that the frame skipping in EyeCreate recordings might be an HDD issue, But the full format for a 500Gb seems to take 30 HOURS !!!!! I live in a place where there might be a power failure without warning any time. it d oesn't happen regularly, but I can't bet on no power outages for 30 hour at all.

My question: if there is a power outage during a full format, will it Brick my HDD? or Can I format it again?

Hmm... it should be no worse than giving it a brand new HDD to format when I upgraded my HDD. Should be fine I think.

In the worst case you can reformat it on a Windows or Mac so that PS3 will start from scratch again.

Are u sure it won't render my HDD unreadable?
Also, if I format it on PC and put it back in,I will lose the Locked saves of Demons Souls definitely, cos PS3 locks the HDD to a hardware and if a new HDD is put in, it does not copy over protected saves. Thats what I heard and I think thats what happened when my Heavy Rain saves did not copy over last time, when I upgraded my HDD.

Hmm... you could be right. Upgrading/reformatting a HDD did render protected game saves useless. I was responding to your "bricking PS3" question.

It looks like your safest route is:
* Temporary PS+
* PS3->PS3 transfer (if you have a spare HDD, and can borrow a PS3).

I killed level 3-1 boss, I get back to the hub and now world 4 is inaccessable? Is it supposed to be like this? What happened?

World 4 is inaccessible throughout the game. The Archstone has been destroyed.
