While a few years ago, after the EU (re)union, those goods were quite cheap, that has changed quite a bit. From a simple piece of wood, through materials like screws and plaster, to machinery: the price has gone up again.

It's not as if all those things have become expensive as a whole, the expensive stuff is still getting cheaper, but the price of the very cheap stuff has gone up severely. A simple, single piece doorknob, a wooden leg end, even a rubber door stopper, they all start at about 5 Euro apiece.

Is that simply stupid bean counters at the top, or is there a realistic reason for that?

The world can seem rediculous.

My plan is to invest in saw dust futures. :P
Honestly though in the states saw dust has quadrupled in price over the last two years.
$25 a ton is now $100.

Take a little time to meditate on the the things made from sawdust and wood pulp.
The price of a barrel of petrol doubled yet consumer cost tripled.
I'm buying a years worth of laser printing paper for my home before the market reacts.
