Thief III Announced!!

The images are obviously not as impressive as Half-Life 2 or Doom 3, but that's never what Thief has been about. I'm still excited about it. Let's hope Eidos doesn't mess it up.

If I remember correctly, it uses the unreal engine, but with improved lighting algorithms.Anyway, I like it and it`s a big improvement over former thief games in terms of graphics-let`s hope gameplay will still be there :wink:

It's been in development for about two years now. One of the Ion Storm employees recently posted that the Thief 3 team just demoed it for the rest of the company last week and he thought it was the most graphically beautiful game he's ever seen. In his words, screenshots don't do its lighting effects justice.

From what I understand Thief 3 is using the Deus Ex 2 version of the Unreal engine which apparently has been significantly modified. I can't remember what Specter said exactly, but there's only like about 30% of the original engine code in there at best. The rest has been either modified or rewritten. Deus Ex 2 graphics have been compared to Doom3's so we'll have to wait and see... Most of the graphics I've seen so far are kinda meh, but I have faith that it will be quite beautiful, and yes ultimately Thief was never really about the graphics. :wink:
