Here's a particularly interesting statistic:

http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/20125.pdf

2002 had a merkdly lower number of International Terrorist attacks comparted to 2000 and 2001. Though the "general trend" seems to be that of decline since the mid 80's.

"War on terror" getting results? I'd wager it's a definite factor in the 2002 results.

All I can say is that the part of the report about Brazil only show the well known police activity.

We have had some people from other surrounding countries doing some criminal activities (kidnapping) here for some years now. The Federal Police arrested many and some request the political refugees status

For instance one famous case when they kidnapped a billionare here: http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~delacova/chile/kidnap.htm
edited: better link.

IMHO this is just regular police activity.

Nah, it's just the recession getting to em, not as much money to pay people to kill themselves.
