I was installing a game today and one of the files was unreadable :(
And then it occured to me, I could test all my game cd's and if any are scratched ect,I could install one of those p2p programs and download replacements, after all I do have a license to these files
what do you think ?

If you're in the US, at $9.2k a copy you might just wanna buy new ones instead. :D

I copy everything to harddisk, and use a No-CD patch if needed. I know that is breaking the law, but I do want to enjoy them.

I dont think it is, creating a nocd patch is but using one on a game youve bought I doubt it

What's the game? And as already suggested try copying the disc(s) into a folder and running the installer.

I'd personally feel justified in doing that. If we're seriously talking about it's the license you own and the media is just delivery, then why not? The problem would be of course you wouldn't just be downloading but uploading as well. . .

Personally, I believe you should have the right to copy a game if your copy becomes damaged, especially if that game comes with a CD key. You're buying the key which gives you the right to play the game. If your disk gets damaged and you still have a key, you should be well within' your right to copy the disc from someone else.

As Geo said, the issue is uploading. Most p2p programs force you to upload, and in that case you're not just replacing your disc, but distributing the game to others.

Mail them. Perhaps they'll put the game up for free download if it's that old. I mean Ubisoft released FarCry, RRR, etc. for "free" which are far more recent than that.

Or you could say which game/file it is, perhaps someone here can send it to you (the file, that is  ).
