So I was thinking all this DRM stuff can get confusing. Is there a website that lists the various iterations of DRM out there and on what media?

I know if this site, but have no idea how up to date it is.

It would be nifty if there was a more comprehensive site that had info on securom and other methods of DRM.

I am also curious about what exactly the BluRay and HD-DVD folks are doing on that front as there is so much hysteria in general that it is hard to figure out exactly what they are doing and how it is different if at all from previous efforts.

Anyway I definitely think this is a good forum as I think that DRM/Warez needs to be talked about to at least some extent. There is no doubt that industry and other groups manipulate information to support their points of view.

Well various news sites that follow DRM/P2P type news and carry lots of information on these things are (in no particular order) P2P.net (http://p2pnet.net/index.php), CD Freaks (http://www.cdfreaks.com/), Slyck (http://www.slyck.com/), Zeropaid (http://www.zeropaid.com/). These are good jumping off points for finding this kind of info.

BZB thanks for the links. It seems that
http://www.p2pnet.net/categories/drm is a good link.

DRM allows media vendors to restrict your fair use rights so that they can be sold back to you piecemeal as “features.”

The latest example: Apple’s announcement that you can now create ringtones of DRM-locked iTunes-purchased music. Apple will only let you convert those tracks to ringtones if you pay another dollar, and, just as you can only move iTunes DRM restricted tracks to the iPod and not other portable players, these ringtones only work on the iPhone.

Still it doesn't have a comprehensive list only news articles of current events. We need some sort of database so for example you could find which phones allowed free ringtones to be uploaded from a computer.

I think I will just post up new ones when I find them

Admittedly it is a blog, but it seems to have decent stuff on the RIAA alone. Eventually perhaps we will end up with a more comprehensive list that I can put into the first post.
