HIND (russian heli sim old game, help request - please Davros)

hi there!

My first post here and is asking for help :oops:

I just read this from Davros :

Another helicopter sim that works under xp with a wrapper
but is better with a genuine 3dfx card + win9x is
Hind (did they ever make a glide patch for its sister game
ah64 apache ????) I might as well install f-16 fighting falcon as well
(uses the same engine)

please which wrapper did you use for make that game run with glide under XP?
I install it ok and also the glide patch but now I need the final step :cool:

no problem

did you patch hind the proper way (its tricky)
patch to 1.2
unzip 3dfx patch to folder
unzip common files to folder (in the readme )
run 3dfx patch

Davros cannot recomend Enemy Engaged Comanche vs Hokum highly enough especially since it was made open source and has been improved no end by the moders if you can get the previous game as well Enemy Engaged Apache vs Havoc as they link together allowing you to play apache in the comanche engine (ps: eech2 is out but avoid it its as its the same game just prettier but very buggy)

The thing I didn´t do is update the game to 1.2 BEFORE the 3dfx patch!! sure was that...

thanks for EE recomandation , yessss I love that game with the mods... :twisted: still have some texture stutters here (is like all pause for a micro-sec while flying but can play it....) but now I want to play Hind 100% at 3dfx like in the old voodoo times :cool:

yeah! I play a lot LB2 with the "dgVoodoo 1.4" wrapper :twisted: for me the BEST heli sim (I also remember Gunship 2000 x the Commodore Amiga, love to fly the Cobra there... yes I´m 30+ here hehe)

well now my Hind report :cool: no luck here with that one :sad:

I try it in two computers one with win98 with a nvidia 440mx (ouch!) and in this one with WINXP and a 7800gs... I have it installed with 1.2 + 3dfx patch (and I have the original CD), I see the menu but when I want to fly just a black screen or hang

I try it with zeckensack's Glide wrapper as you point me and also with the one I use for play well LB2 but is a no go....

please Davros can you tell me the exact version number of the wrapper you use...

I try with the latest zeckensack 0.84c with no luck BUT I see at this page: http://www.zeckensack.de/glide/archive/
that there are a LOT of version to try... maybe an older one is the one you use well there with Hind... :wink: is my last hope for me with Hind under 3dfx... the game in software mode works perfect here...

ps: there are 2 3dfx patches
the update
and the voodoo2 update (not sure i mentioned that)

but anyway i tried it and no luck
it seems to be the wrapper which is crashing (as seen in taskmanager) not the game

i get further (the screen changes resolution) with the game set to win95 compatability
but i cant get it to run sorry

i can run unreal tournament in glide no problem

i dont know you know
its rglide that crashes
it works fine with nvidia + other games

the guy who made that wrapper is a member here RolfN he doesnt work on it anymore and is busy but if you ask really nicely (maybe try bribery ;)) he may have a look at it for you

ps: if you are going to send him pictures of yourself naked its only polite to warn him first :D

Speaking of old heli-sim games, anyone ever play Gunship 2000? I hate to even think how many hundreds of hours I spent playing that game and F117A. I kinda got out of the flight-sim games after that, but one of these days I'd like to go back and try out some of the oldies, like Apache, Longbow II, EE, etc...

Geez, I just looked up some info on Gunship 2000, it was released in 1991. Didn't realize it was that long ago. Man, do I feel old now. :)
