WHY DID THIS FORUM GET STARTED?
It all started when some kids with much more time than brains decided to deface the CellPerformance.com forums. The amount of time to manage and administer the forums was already getting out of hand - For example, I'd get a dozen new users a day, but figuring out who was a real person interested in a converstation and who was a bot trying to spam the forums was getting very frustrating. The tagging was really just the last straw.
I asked my pals at Beyond3D if they could help out. And they graciously offered to host the CellPerformance forums here. I want to thank Carl Bender especially, for going out of his way to set something up for me and the CellPerformance community.
So effective immediately, the CellPerformance.com forums will now be hosted here. I will direct the comments and links that are currently on the CellPerformance website over here over time.
WHAT IS ON-TOPIC IN THIS FORUM?
As the name would suggest, Cell processor related performance issues are the main topic of conversation. But as a general guideline, this is a programmer-centric forum and the kinds of things I'd expect to see discussed here are:
Threads related to...
1. Articles posted on CellPerformance.com
2. PPU and SPU programming in general.
3. PPU and SPU optimizations in particular.
4. Designing code and data for Cell targeted systems.
5. Programming for PS3/Linux.
6. Cell related news.
7. General optimizations that may also be applicable to the Cell.
8. Projects, code and code-snippets for the Cell.
WHAT IS OFF-TOPIC IN THIS FORUM?
Foremost, this should be a forum of the practice of programming the Cell. The Cell is well-documented publically and the tools and platforms for programming it are also available to the public at-large.
However, the specific details of programming retail games for the Playstation 3 are not public. These conversations are off-topic, and certain discussions are not acceptable, including:
Discussions on...
1. The development utilities and libraries available to official PS3 developers.
2. Reverse engineering those same libraries.
3. Reverse engineering of any PS3 hardware not publically disclosed.
This is also not a forum for discussing Playstation 3 games - there are other more appropriate forums available here for that.
GET STARTED!
So go ahead, post and have fun. There's a lot to do with the resources that are out there. Let's discuss, trade ideas and generally see what this thing can do!
