I'm doing a project soon, it has to have some sort of impact on a business/industry and the conclusion has to give a yes/no answer.

This will be done in a 6 month period and it is a VERY long assingment. So I must have crackloads of info.

So far my topics:

Are HLSL mature enough to be used by professional graphics industries?

Are blackholes the ultimate energy source?

This is it so far. :)
I would really appreciate any ideas.
Thanks

Should military training beahndled by private corporations?

Is Anti-Gravity an effective technology?

Is cold Fusion a useable technology.

Wormholes, a viable means of FTL?

Word of Blake Jihad, was it a good thing?

Did Victor Davion kill his mother?

Are online discussion forums an effective way of getting *my* project Topic?

Why does toast always land butter-side down when you drop it?

Women: what's all that about then?

Beer: why is it just soooo good?

Expanding on the toast phenomena, you could delve into the paradox of a cat (which always land on their feet) strapped to a piece of buttered toast.

The mysteries of the universe never cease.

I thought you were informed on these things?

The buttered toast theory is in fact, wrong. I have proven it myself in the kitchen.

The Cheeze Pizza theory on the other hand...

Uhm... Thanks.

Have anymore topics? :)

Why does anyone still do business in North America or Europe for that matter when you can have some of the best engineers and workers on the planet in China, India or Russia for 2 cents on the dollar?

I can vouch that Chinese engineers aren't the greatest.

Heh - lucky I'm only half Chinese, eh?

Will Western civilization survive Muslim migration/integration?
Is the bi-party system of the United States a deterrent to democracy?
Can the United States remain an economic super power without imperialism?
Does Hermann Goering's quote:
Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger.
Relate to America today?

Let me rephrase what I said: I can vouch that mainland chinese engineers aren't that good. At least the ones I've dealt with. Of course, I didn't meet all 100 million of them.

Uhm... any interesting topics for me? Remember I also need to be able to find lots of information.

For example, is my first choice topic about "HLSL being mature enough for the professional graphics industries" a good topic?
Will I be able to find loads of information?

Also, can anyone give me a good topic about CG?

It's a pretty subjectful argument; what is good enough for one professional graphics company may not be good enough for another. I also think it would require a lot of knowledge about how the professional graphics industry operates and has operated in the past, in addition to how pixel shading works and how HLSL's abstract their operation. Basically it sounds to me like you either need to be someone in the know, or you'll have to find a way to get interviews with dozens of people in the industry, and your questions will have to be very well researched. Then you'll still need to know enough to be able to draw conclusions from the responses in your interviews. 6 months is a long time though, I'm sure you could research plenty of information to complete it successfully, if you wanted to.

What it boils down to, is do you care enough about it to put in the effort to do the research?

Oh man. :/

I do want to place in lots of effort into it, not too much though.
It seems like the topic you suggested are for people who really want to place in several hours a day for it.

Thanks for help.

I guess I have more topics I need to look for.

Also, can anyone give me a good topic about CG?

Well, for instance:
"Why Cg is a dead end solution in the light of the upcoming OpenGL 2.0 standard."

How about "why there will be more than one high level shading language for GPUs"? :)

'Are blackholes the ultimate energy source? '

Answer: no! The biggest blackhole we know off is only a fraction of say, a galaxy (hence a fraction of the total mass-energy). Galaxies are part of clusters. Clusters are part of Super clusters.

Totally depends on what one naively characterizes as Energy also. Explosive energy like say heat? Gravitional selfpotential?

According to the episode of Nova that was shown last night, 2/3 of the universe is made up of dark energy, so I would guess that would be the ultimate energy source. You probably don't want to argue that as being a fact though, since nobody knows what dark energy is.

Several hours a day (say, for a week) is alot of research? The kids of today...

Actually, if you intend to follow up on this topic I'd suggest you familiarize yourself with Nikolai Kardashev. No offense to Fred as he's correct (just lost in trivialities), but Nikolai introduced the de facto standards concerning a civilizations maturity based on energy output/input(s). Very fascinating work.

Dark Energy indeed is a good choice (the mysterious repulsive force), problem is its most likely some scalar field from an as yet unidentified GUT theory.

At the present time, Inflation theorists posit the existence of the Inflaton field (for a number of reasons), rather than deriving it from Particle Physics assumptions. Hence the two fields are a little bit at odds and departed from one another at the current time. Hence, we don't KNOW whats fundamentally causing this, it could be a combination of many things.

There are some candidates, like the trace of a String theory fundamental tensor. However at this time no real theory has addressed dark energy in a reasonably conclusive way. Its a mystery at the present time, and probably the largest unsolved problem in Physics (Consider that the difference between Quantum field theory prediction and Experiment is about 126 ORDERS of Magnitude. The single largest disparity between theory and experiment in the history of science.)

Thanks again guys. I just found out I have 7 weeks. :?

Vince: It's the new generation.

Wait until all the old devs die out/retire and the new lazy assed ones like myself move in. ;)

DemoCoder: Would you recomend that I do that? I haven't been following the 3d scene as I have in the past. I missed out on A lot. Guess I am going to have to catch up quickly.

Guys discussing blackholes/dark matter: You have all lost me.
