According to the Register..

Benchmarked at 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 with two detail settings, 2xAA 0xAF (chart 1) and 2xAA 8xAF (chart 2)

In general terms, the game benchmarks are quite clear in their message: the 9800 is undoubtedly an improvement over the previous chip, but not by a great enough margin to currently catch up the FX in current DX8 tests. That could all of course change with the arrival of true DX9-class titles, only the likes of Doom III will be able to shed any true light on the matter.

Unless ATI can manage some major optimisations for the 9800 over coming weeks, before boards become available we're unlikely to be sold on their latest must-have technology. ®

Get Serious...

They bench at 2x AA adn 0 and 8x AF... Its completely Ridiculous. and then to post a conclusion like that??? Plus i have SERIOUS Doubts about the validity of their game settings. As these results dont line up with any of the other numbers people are posting. To single out 2x AA and claim the 9800pro is inferior to the FX is just as underhanded as it comes. I mean. They HAVE to know that at 4x+8x the 9800pro is 30 FPS faster than the Fx right?? How could you not even mention that? Further i know that the 9800pro does not lose to the FX at 2x+8x in the first place. There is simply NO other explanation that they are either PAID OFF by Nvidia. Or have some personal Agenda. This BS is INEXCUSABLE!!!!

Look at these Rediculous charts...

to answer why i directly think Nvidia is behind it.

1. Why would the Register be motivated or even have the idea to use such settings, and get such numbers on their own?

2. Nvidia has a HISTORY of looking for underhanded websites to do their bidding. Like Kyle at Hardocp for example.

Hmm, not sure why anyone would take the register seriously. I remember when I heard about B3D's respectability in the graphics area, I came right away and have never left. I hope most people do more research than that site, before choosing a card.

2xAA/8xAF hmm wasn't that the settings nVidia recommended everyone to test the FX at? ;)

2xaa/8xaf is living in the past

I've been using 2x Quality Smoothvision and 16x Aniso @ 1024x768-1152x864 since I first got my 8500
right now I'm running most games at 1280x960-1280x1024 with 4-6x AA and 16X Performance or Quality Aniso

heres the PCZone forum thread on their FX review

http://www.dearwandy.com/showthread.php?s=2f7f577ba9212de5e5c7359cdc1681a3& threadid=302

there really is no hope in getting that guy to act like an ethical hardware journalist. POC Zone regular gets me annoyed with its crap hardware reviews (not just graphics cards) let alone its 94% for UII, so I dont tend to buy it now.

As Xavier on Barrysworld he is even worse.

PCZone is only half the problem. The other half will be the thousands of people that link-back to those laughable graphs.

The thing that strikes me odd- how did they manage to get those numbers out of that card? They seem to conflict heavily with all other benchmarks floating around on the internet (Anand's link given is a good example).

I'm a bit baffled by those numbers and still left just scratching my head.

I loved Demalions posts. It totally ripped his biased and uninformed reporting apart and shoved it where the sun don't shine
