Bluntly put I get corruption with the 3.1 drivers on my 8500. (I also got this with the leaked betas a while ago that has 16bit FSAA for 9700)

On morrowind I get polygons with verticies that are 'tied' to the center of the screen. 3dmark03 test 1 shows this and test 2 is just a complete mess (shadows esp). If I overclock the card the corruption starts to disappear and at 330-335Mhz (:!:) ram the corruptions from the drivers have gone. At this speed though more normal artefacts from overclocked ram start to appear (coloured spots on textures etc)

Interesting to note that I get alot less coloured spots at 335Mhz in these drivers than in other ones at that speed.

I can go back to 3.0 or any other and its all fine again so I don't think my card is broken. :|

I used to have the poly\vertices problem in Rallisport, using Catalyst 3.0.
It went away after I added ramsinks and a better h/s to core.
The vertices came back when I tried to clock the mem past 325Mhz

(used to have a cold boot/detection problem with the 9500/9700 in my old system PIII-Soyo/via.... gone with new MoBo)

But, yeah the 3.1's seem a little off. 2D text is blurrier, the core seems to
artifact @lower clocks than the 3.0's....... odd.

I got a weird Powercolor Radeon 9700 which is clocked at 325/300. It has the same problem in C&C:Generals. It happens in both 3.0 and 3.1 driver. Then I tried using Powerstrip to downclock it to the default clock (275/275) and the problem is gone.

The artefacts I'm on about dissapear as the clock speed goes up though.

Running at several speeds I reckon that if the ram on this card could get to 340Mhz without doing the more normal ram overlocked artefacts then I'd be fine. :|

At 275/275 its a complete mess. I've tried 1009 (retail and oem) and 7008 bioses, vram voltages from the stock 3.15v (it was an OEM) to 3.9v and speeds from 250 to 330. With 3.0 its fine. With 3.1 and the leaked ones with 16bitAA for r300 it isn't.

hmm.

It seems that morrowind and 3dmark03 are happier at ram 330+Mhz but C&C generals likes to have it set at <275Mhz

:!: :!: :(

I'm confused :|

Well at least your games work, for me the problem is that all Direct3d applications request for internet access.Failure to comply results in Direct 3d being disabled completely. :(

It seems that for some reason omegas 3.1 based drivers don't suffer from this problem presumably its something with the settings. :-?

EDIT: Or maybe not, morrowind is still a mess in places. :|

and 3dmark03 is also corrupted.

It is better than the default 3.1s, odd :-?

3.2s seem to be fine. Hope it stays like that :)
