ok so I'm bored, FSAA tester 2.0 nor FSAA View 0.2 works here so I can't use any decent proggy
I had to stick to D3D tubes
both cards are running with 4x FSAA
r300 msaa vs. r200 ssaa.
well you nailed one of them at least :)

The pipe positions are all messed up again...that program really sort of stinks for AA comparisons.
The one with the working fog ( what's going on there :?: ) (01) looks better in most circumstances, especially near vertical edges near the bottom. The light edges of the vertical pipes high and to the far right look like a tie to me at first glance.
My casual input.

nv25 vs r300

Well, I'm guessing both are ATI x4FSAA
Pic 1 = 16bit using 783 leaked drivers
Pic 2 = 32bit

I like the second one better, I can pick out some jaggedness in the first one.
Without resorting to zoom and being a super geek calculating coverage, I'd guess the second was a 9700, could also be an 8500 I can't tell you if the AA is gamma correct or not. The parahelia is only good for 16x from what I recall and you said both were 4X so that's out, and from another thread, I kinda doubt any NVIDIA card would be able to spit out the second at 4x. First image I have no idea, could be any card with poor FSAA and some uber banding issues.

It's a Voodoo 5 5500 :)
tb is helping me out making his proggy work on my V5 since I wanted to post as many references as possible in my IQ comparison in my forthcoming FX preview/review.
But this damn Voodoo refuses to work in any FSAA "tester" out there and the IQ is to awfull to use in any in game shots (horrible textures) so that would probably distract too much

Screen0 has the same look, (loss of texture shades), as ATI R300 running 16bit with AA on in those 783 beta.

Ahh, then it would be more about the image capture and not the hardware capacity? I have never seen a V5 in person, so not a clue, could be a V3 though from the sky. :)

It should be well known that Voodoos can't FSAA in a window. However all these FSAA testers all seem to be windowed apps.

Mine isn't :P
But it requires DX9 :(
Hmm, you think it would really be useful to make it work with DX7 to have it working using a V5?

Uttar: Yes.
The V5 shot's edges look great, IMO.
Texture LOD needs to be pushed back three notches though... give it a shot :)
Also, if that's on a V5, why are you in 16bpp?
And himself: It couldn't be a V3, they can't do AA ;)

Assuming 01 is the r300 and 00 is the v5 (01 has gamma corrected AA) then the v5s pattern is rotated the other way to atis.
Atis is \ \ way and v5s is / / way.

crappy drivers, they didn't let me use 32bpp unless I forced it through the drivers and I hadn't thought of that when I took the screenies
and no it's not windowed

Is that trilinear texture filtering in shot 1?

It should have been obvious to all it was a Voodoo. I don't think I've ever seen any forum or Beyond 3d FSAA comparison without a Voodoo comparison. However, I'm still not convinced the Voodoo was that great personally...
