just bought this board
Asrock P4Dual 880-Pro S478
it only has pcie 4x not 16x
will the x1900xt be ok even if it has slightly reduced performance
ati's page has it listed as pci-e 16x the fastest listed as just pci-e is the x1800
ive also been looking at the nvidia 7 series all i can see is pci express no mention of needing pic-e 16x
but i would rather go ati
tnx in advance...

If you have an x16 physical connector on the board, you can plug in any x16 GPU. However, the slot might only actually be wired x4 or x8 (<- common on server boards with more than 2 x16 slots). The reduced performance will mostly show itself on texture download and readback.

thank you
the slot is physicaly the same as a 16x slot and does work with many cards eg: x1800
i guess it only has 4 lanes because the board also has an agp slot which can be used at the same time

ps: how sure are you
possitive
fairly sure
educated guess
i shook some chicken bones :)

sorry for quizzing you but its an expensive card and i wont be too happy if i buy it and it doesnt work

Just be very sure and plug in the external power cable the graphics board needs.

Although the X1900 XT isn't on Asrock's official support list (here (http://www.asrock.com/support/VGA/show.asp?Model=775Dual-880Pro)) for that motherboard, I know of one person who is using such a setup without any problems.
