Hi all,

I'm a relatively new user to these boards, but I can see most of you guys know what you're talking about,

I'm going to update a few components on my computer so I can run most of the new games relatively fast,

one thing which has stumped me is what Graphics card to buy,

I've checked numerous online hardware sites,

e.g. Ebuyer, Komplett

and I've been reading up on varius graphics cards,

mostly, GeForce Ti4200 variants and the Radeon 9500 Pro.

I've checked out most benchmarks and it seems the Radeon 9500 Pro is the better performing card over even the GeForce 4 Ti4600, in certain areas.

But I'm puzzled and really need some advise,

my price range is upto £150(top price of Radeon 9500Pro) it seems, but really I dont want to spend that much so I can use some other money to buy other things.

So any suggestions on what cards are good and which ones to stay away from?

I hear the,

ASUS GeForce 4 Ti4200 OTES is a promising card, yet that is 140
the, Albatron GeForce 4 Ti4200 Turbo seems to be a good bet but thats 145.

So is there any card between 100-150 which can perform as well as the above? or is it best to go for the Radeon 9500 Pro?

Please reply ASAP, Thanks all.

HaZz.

My Opinion if I had £150 and had a choice between the Radeon 9500 Pro and the Geforce Ti4200 would be the Radeon 9500 Pro.

I doubt anyone would disagree with my choice. The Geforce 4 Ti4200 is yesteryears bargain buy... the 9500 Pro is the future baby.

You're actually missing my point,

I dont generally want to spend that much money if I dont have to,

I mean next year I'll prob update again, So would the GeForce 4 Ti4200 be good for todays games?

Considering that the 9500 competes very well with the TI4600(hence it blows the TI4200 out of the water), and is DX9 compatable, it's by far the better deal, Of course, if you can't afford the difference.... then why ask the question? Just get the TI4200, it's a decent card and a good value.

Ok so ATI Radeon 9500PRO,

or is it better to get the 9500 and clock it to the specs of a 9700? or is that just a waste of time?

9500 Pro...the software mod has low success rates...if you buy a 9500 Pro now it will carry you for two years no prob...a DX9 card and ready to go..better FSAA and AF and faster..

The next question then is where can you get a 9500 Pro ? There doesn't seem to be many around.

They appear to have 100+ Sapphire units in

Supposedly the new MSI 4200-8x is a good all-around card: quiet cooler and nice bundle. I'd recommend it only if it were much cheaper than the 9500 Pro, say £30 less. £140-145 for a 4200 is unacceptable. Keep in mind the Abit OTES card is very loud (much like the OTES system on the GFFX 5800 Ultra).

That said, I'd recommend a 9500 Pro if you're a gamer.

Find a cheap Gf3Ti500 if you dont want to spend over £100 or an 8500. If you have £150 the 9500Pro is a no brainer.
