Dunno if it has been proposed already, but, for an high technical site like B3D a DX caps database would be really nice (even if implemented like a stupid .txt file for each card).

Can anybody send me R200 and R300 caps with DX8 and (more important) DX9 ? (i can send DX9 caps with 42.xx drivers on Geforce 4).

to do this just launch the dxcaps viewer, %DX9SDKDIR%\bin\dxutils\DXCapsViewer.exe, then select your card, then go to HAL, Caps and in File menu click "Print Whole Subtree to File".

my email is mummyNCC1701@hotmail.com, thank you :)

IHVs don't really like such info to be spread out, since it changes from version to version. You are probably best to ask some developer relation guys at individual IHVs about this.

Screw IHVs, its not like top secret majestic stuff.

there was this site http://www.techlogic.ca/directx/caps/query.mv but they seem to have lost most entries.

MDolenc is right -- ATI was quick to provide me with caps when I asked for them (and asked me not to pass them on, so I won't).

On the other hand, I don't see anything really bad about this kind of database, as long as the caps always come with the driver version attached, so that people will know it's version specific.

I fail to see the point in this, honestly, if nVidia or S3 or whatever IHV wants to see the competitor's caps they can just get one card, normal users dont know a damn about caps either (so even a comparison between IHVs caps would be pointless for them).

We have included caps in reviews before, on occasion. The issues are that, as mentioned, they change over drivers revisions (R300 caps look very different now to when the 9700 PRO was initially reviewed) and the format they come out in is a pain in the arse to deal with.

When we get the new back office to the site we might be able to look at this a bit better.

...normal users dont know a damn about caps either...
Exactly! And yet they might jump conclusions based on (current) caps.
