Actualy game demos, game lists and working hardware. I can't believe. Actualy selling dates for standalone cards. Alienware adding them to the website today as an option.
Who would have thought we'd see this day come. From vaporware to hardware.

dell has also offered them recently i hear. $250 but it's a PCI
PCIe comes out in a few months.
im gonna get one before gothic3 (or sooner if another earlier game exploits them)

Check out that link and click on the ghost recon video using cpu compared to ppu.

With ATI's and recently Nvidia's announcements that they will support physics calculations on the GPU, this news couldn't have come soon enough. It looks as if the path forward won't be as clear as once thought. I suppose it all clears up when DirectPhys is launched. All these little players go away -become assimilated- and we are left with "good ol'" Microsoft.
PS. It's prbably high time to sacrifice some small animal in hope that there will be an OpenPHYS competitor just so MS don't get away with anything. Imagine how dreadful Direct3D would have been with no OpenGL to show the way.

Impressive stuff. The collateral damage is something Havok FX would be unable to do if I understand the approach correctly.

Well Havok and Ageia are already in this space. Havok FX is a physics API for GPUs, and would be competing directly with anything Microsoft puts out. And PhysX is a physics API that can be run on a CPU or PPU accelerated.
I'm sure if Microsoft were to enter the fray, some sort of "open" standard will be born out of the existing approaches.

Good news.
I originally thought the 1st reference cards could be flipped with pci-e and pci pins on the top and bottom?? i would actually prefer to buy one that could be flipped and used on either pci or pci-e systems.
Out of the 2 options I am NOT buying a video card to run physics on.

Yeah, I don't want my GPU to waste cycles on doing physics, framerates are slow enough as it is in current games thankyouverymuch...
Gonna hold out for PCIe version, it's the only one that would fit in my system anyway as I'm all out of regular slots. And besides, I wouldn't fork out that much cash for a state of the art physics processor only to stick it in an over decade-old and nearly obsolete expansion slot...

Does anyone know how the explosion effects in the Xbox 360 version compare to those two videos? I mean that specific instance aswell - the destruction of a truck?

They are better than the one on the left but far from the Agea version on the right. FYI the one on the left was using Medium physic setting on the game (That's what Grin's CEO sais here http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=32145&st=0 ). The game has 3 settings: Medium (Havok), High (Havok) , and Hardware (totaly different path using AGEA Hardware)
It's looking like my next system will definately have a PhysX card in it. I agree with everyone else not to use my GPU to do this stuff. They say it will use "free cycles" to do the physics, but everyone knows sometimes there won't be "free cycles". And I'm not paying an extra $400 for SLI, when I can get the PhysX card for ~$250 and it will probably work better. This physics on a graphics card thing is stupid for games.

Thanks, i would like to see a comparison to the High setting then since this comparison is an unfair representation of what you get when you install a PPU (unless your CPU can only manage medium of course).
I would expect the PC high setting would be the same or very similar to the X360 setting.

Could you please post a link where that is said? I don't know if I'm blind but I couldn't find it from the link you posted :)

OK. Thanks Ike, and yes, I'm blind :D
Dang those demos are tight!
