View Full Version : PDO: Panzer Dragoon Overrated?
I was unimpressed by the demo of PD0. After reading the endless praise it garnished at E3 i am left to wonder what version of the game they played.
PS-what is the news of Steel Battalions Live!
So you played the demo version of a game (which was a build from June or so) about a game out in early 2003 and are asking people if it's rubbish? :o
again what version were they playing
Maybe they'll change the name from Panzer Dragoon Orta to Panzer Dragoon Overated
That's just a joke BTW, please don't take it the wrong way.

The game has progressed from the demo. I too was unimpressed with that demo :(
The demo was amazing, but I can see how some people might be fooled by its low level of difficulty. Because it was a demo of an early level and intentionally made to be easy, experienced gamers won't get to test the beauty of all the gameplay mechanics. For the most part, the demo only made you aim and shoot. In the final game, you'll undoubtedly be challenged to switch dragon forms on the fly, weave in and out of danger, locate weak spots on enemies, and aim like a madman in classic Panzer shooter style.
The gameplay should have a lot of longevity, too. In the beginning, playing a shooter is all about survival. When you get good, it then becomes about style. This one also comes with the entire, fantastic, original Panzer Dragoon game as a bonus feature.
If you like shooters, Panzer Dragoon Orta is going to be one of the best. With its additions of speed control and real-time combat morphing, it has an even better gameplay formula than the phenomenal Panzer Dragoon Zwei. SEGA's Smilebit looks like they're on track to deliver a new, worthy entrant into the Panzer series.
I also thought the demo was great, can't wait for this game to be released.
Here is a high quality gameplay video of the level where you fly above a river;

The demo was easy, but I too expect the final game to be of greater difficulty. The old ones weren't exactly easy... I don't expect Smilebit to pull a Star Fox64 and make Orta a cakewalk.

liking it depends on if you liked the old ones, I have never been a big fan of Railshooters, I thought they were somewhat fun back in the SNES era, but since technology has progressed so, I was hoping for a bit more free roaming with a form of Radar like they did with Rogue Leader.. But for Fans of the Series, I think Orta will wind up being the best of the bunch

Hehehe... StarFox2 on the SNES was to have almost no corridor-type rail levels at all, it was almost all going to be free-roaming with a radar. :D
I've actually played a whole bunch of an incomplete version and it's true! There are NO corridor levels! Well, I take that back, the bases are "corridors" in the same sense that Mega Man Legends is...
So much for platform limitations!
The Japanese version I saw yesterday looked unimpressive. It reminded me of Rez, except it had textures and the flying dragon. It looks like another Sega dud. The hires anitaliased screenshots look way better than the game in motion.

hehe, it shows how jaded we have all become, you know, and I believe I am right in this, if we had Kabuki Warriors, Universal Studios, or some other just horrible game come to use like 10-15 years ago, we would have LOVED it, look at how much we loved Dragons Lair when it hit Arcades, now try to play it and realise how terrible it is.

I disagree. If anything gamers have become more forgiving. It amazes me what ppl are willing to spend money on today.
The new Panzer Dragoon is becoming a great game . I enjoyed the demo I played. If you compare it to a free roaming game of course it wont be as good.
Anyways IF you want to see what the fuss is , get a saturn and get the originals and if you can find it ... get panzer dragoon saga... And play a rgp that stands above any FF game.

I really don´t understand what´s the deal with PDO, aside from a tech demo. I mean, it´s just a rail shooter, and those have very little playtime in them, and have close to no story(at least IN the game). Yeah, Star Fox was cool and all, and I loved it while it lasted, so I understand the appeal...but they`re still far from being AAA material or anything.
Although I suppose that if Contra:SS had those visuals, I´d be hyping it as GOTY 2003 too. :D
Oh, and BTW, considering the...umm..."mentality" of Sega fans (who turn scores of sevens into tens, sixes into nines, etc. and average games into amazing ones :D ), I really, really doubt PDS would be up to FFs standards. But that´s just me.

Here is the PC Demo (http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=1782)
if anyone is interested to get a taste and cant get the XBox demo(they are different games, this is the Saturn game..but should give you a good feel for it)
Never got to play the demo but I'm looking forward to playing PDO upon release next year. After watching 15 minutes or so of ingame footage recently I don't see what everybody is complaining about, the game looks pretty sweet IMHO. I also consider the 35/40 score from Famitsu and the fact its from Smilabit as a good sign of how much fun the game is hopefully gonna be. The graphics might not be as mind-blowing as everyone seems to demand but certainly good enough, plus the artwork and design is awesome IMHO...

the demo is utter crap compared to the final game. the final game is... unbelievably good as a total experience.

I'm waiting to see how the gameplay is, for some reason, thats the one thing they dont like showing, I already have beachspikers, and its mad fun with 4 players, but I am curious if DOAXVB is different enough to warrent the purchase(or plays as good)

from what I understand DOAXVB is being positioned as a summertime with hot bikini girls simulator rather than a volleyball game.
IIRC it's only a single player game.
volleyball isn't the only focus of the game, but rather playing mini games, influencing the interaction between the girls etc.

It's not single player, this was posted by Brian Hoisko ( Product/Logistics Specialist of Tecmo) on the DOAXBV forums (http://www.tecmogames.com/ubb/Forum23/HTML/001111.html);
Sorry Guys,
The game is only 2 players only, there is no 4 player mode in the game.
Yeah, talk about skimpy, I have found close to 50 outfits already that have barely next to nothing but string across the chest and behind. It is simply breath-taking sometimes to see them on the girls. I cannot help sometimes to think how far games have come.
As for gameplay, it is smooth as butter. Very easy to handle, there is a slight learning curve to spiking and blocking, other than that it is smooth.
And the Zack ending has nothing to do with Dennis Rodmans voice, I think the voice fits perfect with Zack. I'll leave the ending to your imagination.

This game has to be the best looking game I have seen around for awhile. I still cannot believe how beautiful the water looks and the way the girls play in the water, just stunning. All the girls look so innocent and lively. There is a full fledged casino in the game that features Black-Jack, Poker, Slots and Roulette. You can buy the girls all kinds of toys and clothing that they can wear later and during the exercise mode they are wearing what you bought them. You can even rip your own music in the game as well and watch the girls dance to it, it's so funny watching them dance to "Guns and Roses - Welcome to the Jungle" in there thongs.
I have to admit I was unsure about this game for a very long time and when I finally played it I think you guys will be very happy about the outcome. It's a cute game with a lot features and replay value, more replay value than any other game out there, at least 100+ hours to collect everything. Unless you strike it rich in the casino?
All in All I think it's a great all-around game with plenty of action and things to do, my biggest thing right now is getting Tina to wear that damn collar around her neck and the thong that I bought for her

only two players? that stinks.. I'll stick with beachspikers, the 4-player mode is the best part.
