Here's an article from IGN saying that Zelda sold over 400,000 copies in its first week.

December 18, 2002 - According to Bloomberg Japan and tracking service Media Create, Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker has debuted in Japan to sell over 400,000 copies within its first week of release. This bolstered sales of the console to over 65,000. Compare that to the roughly 25,000 it sold in Media Create's last report, and it can be assumed that this spike is a result of the release of Zelda, one of the most recognized franchises in the industry. In contrast, Sony's PlayStation 2 sold over 115,000 units and Microsoft's Xbox over 13,000.

More as it breaks.

That is alot of units sold., especially after considering that some games never sell that many copies. It looks like a good start fort he Big N and hopefully a preview of how well it will sell over here.

Didn't FFX set the record with like 1.9 mil sold in a day or something insane like that?

yea something insane , but that was on the psx in its hey day and in america. I'm sure at the time final fantesy sold 1.9 million in a day there was something like 20 million psx's and not what the 3 million gamecubes .

Ummm...jvd, FFX is a PS2 game. :D And yeah, it did set a record. GT3 also sold around 1 million copies in a single day, AFAIK.

IIRC, DQ7 has the sales record in Japan in terms of racking up millions in the shortest time span.

I thought it belong to FF8.

Anyway, I got Celda, I haven't even open the wrapping. I was kinda looking forward to playing it, but I think I'll save it till next year. I think Orta should arrive today or tomorrow as well, and there is Unlimited Saga. And I have to go on holiday :(

V3 is correct. FFVIII holds the launch day record in Japan by a large margin. DQVII did out sell FFVII though in the end. DQ has had a longer history of going platinum though. That and Japanese law stipulates that Enix must release a Dragon Quest title on a weekend...

Also I'm rather curious to see how well Star Ocean 3 will sell as it's been highly anticipated for practically forever...

I do feel sorry for you guys :(

Your consoles don't even have HDTV support in Europe, do they?

london-boy
20-Dec-2002, 10:19
they don't and the only console (apart from dreamcast R.I.P.) which outputs a progressive scan signal is PS2 and thats with like 3 or 4 games, if even that.......

anyway, anyone able to answer my questions in my thread??

its called *Progressive Scan+VGA box* or something like that...

pretty please

Even though I don't have a PS2, I'm anticipating Unlimited SaGa somewhat..

I'd like to see this "polygonless" rendering technique that Square is using..

I dont know anything about European TV's.
but I thought the RGB/SCART cables were for thier HDTVs?

london-boy
20-Dec-2002, 15:46
yeah i wished............

so i take it no one in here can answer my questions in my other thread....

oh well.... i paid for it already, guess i'll find out sooner or later if its a waste of money or if i'll finally get to play the getaway in 525p

no they're for all TV.

here every TV has a SCART input.

at present, there is no norm for progressive scan or HDTV in europe.
i remember there was an analogic one, that is D2MAC, but it idin't take off.

almost every TV set is RGB compatible. so we can have a good image quality, equivalent to YUV.

widescreen TVs are very affordable now..

still, if PS3 or any of the new consoles do not have AT LEAST 480p as standard i'll put a bomb in the european parliament in Strasburg (spelling??)......

i think there are more than enough people in Europe willing to play console games AT LEAST on a computer monitor (since we don't have *normal* HDTV's)....

and anyway, why even include a 525P mode in The getaway at all?!?!? what is it, are they teasing us or something?!?!?!?!

So is it the consoles or the tv's? that dont have progressive scan?

london-boy

well, apparently *someone* cut progressive scan support from GC and XBOX....

however there are still those few games on PS2 that support pro-scan and they havent cut that....

progressive scan TV's are here though, at least the hardware is here since there are quite a bit of plasma screens sold in the UK (i say quite a bit considering the ridiculous price).... i'm quite sure there are Progressive scan TVs in Europe even though there is no standard yet (480p-720p or 1080i)...

thing is, we do have monitors and they work fine, hell dreamcast games looked so hot on a computer monitor its not even funny......

Well if you polish up your Japanese, Adobe has nice little article on the production of the intro sequence...

Like I explained in another thread: the consoles still support progressive scan but the feature is removed in PAL software.

Magnum PI:

I believe prog scan on the Panasonic models is limited to NTSC (or at least a 60 Hz signal). That goes for most prog scan capable PAL TVs.

some new panasonic model are said to support pal progressive scan, for example the TX-32PH40

someone understanding german better than me could confirm or infirm that..

Unlimited Saga, haven't got time to dig into the game till next year, but battle seems complex, with combo and stuff. Exploration is pretty odd, its basically a picture with options, maybe you get to explore later, but I hope its not like this all the way.

Graphics is nice. But I hope the style of graphics is not the cause for that exploration style. Beside that, this seems to be an average RPG, probably more challenging than average.

Sorry no Orta yet.

At least for XBOX it seems that inserting the (US/APAC) yuv cable does unlock 480p on the european console (i read this on some german vendors' site). Other HDTV res. are not available with PAL software though. This makes some sense to me since internally XBOX purposedly renders at 480p anyways, while other res. require explicit software support.
