Oh, I don't think we need another rehash of all the lame jokes people have come up with regarding this game :), is there ANY non-speculation/non-rumors regarding this title at all at the moment?

Last I heard - which was QUITE a while ago when the GF3 was all new and shiny - was the Unreal engine had been given hardware T&L capability, and they were thinking of adding some pixel shader stuff MAYBE if it wouldn't be too much of a bother.

Previously, I'd read Broussard said they were not interested in doing high-res S3TC textures a la the UT 2nd CD, because they had all their source art done already, thousands and thousands of textures at 256 squared (which sounds stupid to me; wouldn't you want your source art at a HIGH res?). Also, the E3 demo from last year looked seriously lo-poly to me and totally disappointing really.

Seems they're either stuck with a terminal case of feature creep (making it ever-more interactive, or whatever), or they're busy switching engines AGAIN, or updating their art to something that is at least slightly more up-to-date...

This game really does seem to take FOREVER. Bet 3DRealms regret choosing that title by now, LOL... How are they financing the development anyway, drug-smuggling or what? They've sold off Max Payne already, undoubtedly because they were getting strangled for cash. Don't they like have to present something soon-ish or face the grim reaper?

Maybe they plan an all platform release...

That would be a good excuse to wait a little more.
The title was hyped a moment, but now everyone just don't care, but I'm sure as soon as it'll be announced many people will wait for it.

Oh well, if anyone have any NEWS about it, I'll be glad to hear them.

Although they wont confirm it 3drealms has recently incorporated the latest Unreal engine technology (along with their own proprietary tech) and thus had to redo content AGAIN. Thats essentially 3 engines they've gone through (Quake2, original unreal engine and now the latest unreal tech). I dont doubt the game will be excellent once released but honestly the management of this game is pretty ridiculous.

So they DID switch engine again? Haha! :)

Jaysis, no wonder they can't get the damn game out the door... Oh well, at least it has a chance of looking good this time 'round.

I'm not surprised they're keeping this quiet, they'd be ridiculed like no tomorrow if it became public news. It was simply ages and ages ago Broussard stated they'd stopped incorporating changes to the engine, that they've switched engines completely is a radical (to say the least) departure from that position!

I don't expect to ever see Duke Nukem Forever or Team Fortress 2. At this point, I would rather have both 3DRealms and Valve go out of business. Actually, I take that back, I wouldn't want to have any of their employees on the job market and risk them getting jobs at Ion Storm. I want Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 to be finished eventually.

I also gave up waiting for those two games Crusher, its gotten to a point where it truly is pointless. Any more delays and Freelancer will also join that "forget about it" list (yeah I still have hopes it'll be a good game, however unlikely that may seem by now)...

My two most anticipated games, too, particularly Thief 3.

Don't worry, they've already started work on switching to the "Next Gen Unreal" engine shown off at the GeForceFX launch. Their new projected release date is Q3 3004.

Instead of upgrading engines (twice, or was it three times?), why didn't they just take some of their seemingly infinite cash pool and hire some programmers to write an engine for them? They could make it so advanced, that there wouldn't even be a computer capable of running it for another three years (which would be fine, since the game wouldn't be ready by then anyway).

actually they changed engines only ones (q2toUbuild436). From there they added alot of features inhouse.
